Scute - Job description: Network Engineer
Summary
Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience seeking a talented Network Engineer to join our Scute team in Fort Meade, Maryland area, that has passion for building robust, scalable, and secure network environments.
Key responsibilities and areas of experience:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in system engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
• Certifications: Required relevant certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, CCIE, or JNCIE.
• Experience: Proven experience as a Senior Network Engineer, or similar role with a minimum of 7+ years of hands-on experience, performing the following:
o Experience supporting enterprise networks with Cisco and Juniper technologies.
o Strong knowledge of Layer 2/3 networking, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), VLANs, VRFs, and QoS.
o Experience configuring and managing load balancers (F5, Citrix, or equivalent) and boundary devices such as firewalls or network access control appliances.
o Proficiency with Forward Networks or similar digital twin/virtual network simulation tools.
Technical skills/ Role requirements:
• Understanding of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) principles.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and self-direct tasks in a complex environment.
• Strong awareness of network security best practices, compliance standards, and patch management processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be willing to support an on-call rotation
• Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
• Strong communication/collaboration abilities, in cross-functional and multi-function/domain teams.
• Demonstrated self-starter mentality with a passion for learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Experience in high-availability, mission-critical environments.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Ansible) for network automation is a plus.
• Experience in government or highly regulated enterprise environments is desirable.
Other qualifications:
• 5+ years of additional Network Engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
• Security clearance level: TS/SCI w/Poly
• US citizenship required
• Certification Required: 8570 compliant with a minimum Security + prefer CISSP certificate
• Location: Onsite Fort Meade, MD area.
