Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking an experienced Architect / Tech Lead to join a dynamic Agile development team supporting a federal cybersecurity program in Chantilly, VA. This position operates within a Flexible Agile Development Cycle delivering secure, scalable enterprise applications through collaborative design, development, integration, and sustainment efforts.
The Architect / Tech Lead will collaborate closely with developers, system administrators, and the UI/UX team to ensure consistent, secure, and scalable design implementation across all mission applications.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership in systems architecture and software engineering practices.
• Develop architectural guidance for application developers, including target platforms, interface designs, and development tools.
• Analyze and document system requirements for data, workflows, hardware, operating systems, and network interfaces.
• Lead design and development of system prototypes to demonstrate design concepts.
• Evaluate technical characteristics of proposals and recommend optimal design approaches.
• Design architectures supporting migration to or development within cloud environments (AWS preferred).
• Provide database architectural and design expertise to support scalable, efficient solutions.
• Conduct capacity planning, monitor system performance, and recommend cost-efficient improvements.
• Support the Sponsor with compliance requirements including audits and ATO processes.
• Coordinate and review work from development and testing teams to ensure architectural integrity and alignment with mission goals.
Required Qualifications
• Proven experience serving as a Systems Architect or Technical Lead for enterprise or mission-critical systems.
• Hands-on experience with: Linux (Bash), Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB, AWS Services, Elasticsearch, and user-driven web applications.
• Demonstrated expertise designing and developing cloud-hosted applications using AWS and modern architecture principles.
• Experience translating user requirements into full lifecycle system designs and database architectures with multiple interfaces.
• Strong understanding and application of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Agile development methodologies.
• Experience with JIRA and collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams.
• Familiarity with capacity planning, performance optimization, and technical feasibility assessment.
Preferred Skills
• Prior experience supporting cyber operations or secure environments.
• Experience developing system data models and forecasting system growth needs.
• Knowledge of evolving network, cloud, and security technologies and ability to plan for system adaptation.
• Proven ability to assess change requests and integrate system upgrades efficiently.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide cross-functional technical teams.
• Relevant professional certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or SAFe Practitioner) a plus.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Master’s degree preferred.
