Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking an experienced Back-End Application Developer to join a dynamic Agile development team supporting a federal cybersecurity program in Chantilly, VA. This position operates within a Flexible Agile Development Cycle delivering secure, scalable enterprise applications through collaborative design, development, integration, and sustainment efforts.
The Back-End Application Developer will be responsible for building and optimizing robust server-side components, APIs, and data workflows that support mission-critical systems and ensure reliable, high-performance operations across complex environments.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and maintain complex applications, databases, and APIs supporting enterprise systems.
• Evaluate architecture and implementation options to recommend strategic enterprise solutions aligned with Sponsor policies and frameworks.
• Translate functional requirements into detailed application and database design.
• Ensure all developed applications comply with performance, security, and risk management standards, including Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) processes.
• Design, develop, and maintain server-side logic, data models, and integration layers to support front-end and system interoperability.
• Support data migration and transition efforts from legacy systems to new architectures.
• Conduct unit and integration testing, code reviews, and document program development and revisions.
• Collaborate with the System Architect to adapt system data models and support graph database integration.
• Design, develop, and maintain cloud-hosted applications and services within Sponsor-approved environments.
• Perform ongoing maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of deployed applications to ensure system stability and security.

Mandatory Skills & Experience
• Demonstrated experience in Full Stack Java application development, with a focus on back-end systems and data services.
• Proficiency in the following technologies:
o Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB, AWS Services, RESTful APIs, and experience integrating with front-end frameworks (e.g., Angular).
• Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining, and integrating graph databases, including ArangoDB.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, application interfaces, and secure development practices.
• Experience designing and implementing unit and integration tests and maintaining comprehensive technical documentation.
• Experience working within Agile development teams and using JIRA for task management.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) within cloud or hybrid environments.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance with Sponsor risk management processes.

Education Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
• Equivalent professional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based source control, and automated build/deployment tools.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills in fast-paced, mission-focused settings.
