The Application Database Administrator provides comprehensive support for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of database schemas and related objects supporting enterprise and mission-critical systems. This role ensures that database environments are optimized for performance, reliability, and data integrity while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and security standards. The administrator collaborates with infrastructure, development, and business teams to plan and manage database resources, ensuring that long-range data management and schema design requirements are met.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide all activities related to the administration of database schemas and their objects.
• Project long-range requirements for database schema administration and design in conjunction with Infrastructure DBAs in the information systems function.
• Design, create, and maintain database schemas in a client/server environment.
• Conduct quality control and auditing of database schemas in a client/server environment to ensure accurate and appropriate use of data and permissions.
• Advise users on access to various client/server databases.
• Design, implement, and maintain complex database schema objects in accordance with user requirements, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
• Apply knowledge and experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and front-end programming languages (e.g., SQL).
• Perform database programming and support systems design.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Seven (7) years of progressive experience using database query languages such as Oracle, PL/SQL, SQL Server, and Microsoft Access.
• At least five (5) years of hands-on experience and expertise in database schema management.
• Experience on at least two (2) projects in a large organization responsible for administering, operating, maintaining, and securing large-scale computer databases.
• Knowledge of database performance monitoring, security, and access control practices.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:
• Experience working within structured DoD or federal information systems environments.
• Ability to analyze database design and recommend optimization strategies.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
CLEARANCE:
• Must possess an IT-II Non-Critical Sensitive security clearance or Tier 3 (T3).
