In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing technical work in clinical laboratories involves a range of specialized tasks and responsibilities in key areas of work of chemistry, blood banking, hematology, or microbiology such as conducting tests on blood, bodily fluids, and tissue samples to help diagnose medical conditions; using and maintaining laboratory equipment such as microscopes, cell counts on body fluids, and analyzers; gathering and properly label samples for analysis while adhering to safety and privacy regulations and accurately document and interpret test results to provide information to physicians.

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Medical Laboratory Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Biology or a related field. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
AND
Certification Requirement: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Association of Bioanalysts is required within 24 months.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Help
- Independently perform moderately difficult and complex laboratory examinations and procedures in Hematology/Coagulation, Chemistry, Microbiology, Blood, Urinalysis, and Diagnostic Immunology.
- Calculate manual cell counts on body fluids.
- Utilize the medical database systems for maintaining patient data.
- Perform automated and semi-automated procedures such as total lipid testing; Hematology, working in routine hematology; Urinalysis; Microbiology, diagnostics for macroscopic and microscopic examination of cultures.
- Identify and classify cells on body fluid smears and crystal analysis on synovial fluids utilizing microscopy.
- Utilize the medical database systems for maintaining patient data.
- Conduct quality control procedures and maintain accurate records utilizing quality control charts.
- Assemble equipment that requires setup: such as connecting tubes or attaching electrodes, instruments and apparatus.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required. Heavy lifting up to 50lbs is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
- Require employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons.
- Required to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications as a Medical Lab Technician granted by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists, or American Association of Bioalnalysts with 24 months.
- This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
