Blue Rose Consulting Group, Inc. (Blue Rose) is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support a major federal modernization initiative transforming how the Department of Education integrates, scales, and activates data across its enterprise systems.
This is a high-impact engineering role for a hands-on data architect and builder experienced in designing and optimizing modern data platforms at scale. You will develop enterprise-grade pipelines in Databricks, integrate complex data sources, and drive automation, reliability, and performance across a mission-critical analytics ecosystem.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will:
- Design, build, and optimize large-scale data pipelines in Databricks to support advanced analytics and product analysis initiatives.
- Architect and implement ETL and data transformation workflows for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain real-time streaming solutions using Apache Kafka to enable low-latency analytics and continuous data delivery.
- Engineer secure, reliable data architectures leveraging AWS services and modern data engineering best practices.
- Enhance data feeds, improve data quality, and ensure consistent data availability across systems.
- Automate data workflows, introduce monitoring frameworks, and strengthen infrastructure reliability.
- Work in an Agile development environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams of data scientists, analysts, and developers.
- Contribute to enterprise data strategy and mentor junior engineers in scalable design and implementation techniques.
- Full-time (40 hours/week)
- Hybrid in Washington, D.C.; support during East Coast business hours
- Salary: $160,000-$180,000
- U.S. Citizenship required (Dual Citizens acceptable)
- Public Trust clearance required or higher
- Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in data engineering, architecture, or large-scale platform development
- Demonstrated Expert-level (10+ years) experience with:
- Data Engineering
- Databricks Unified Data Analytics Platform
- Apache Kafka
- AWS Architecture
- Extract, Transform, Load (ETL)
- Proven success building and optimizing enterprise-scale data pipelines and streaming systems
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and one or more of Scala, Java, or Go
- Experience integrating and automating data flows across multiple systems and cloud platforms
- Solid understanding of Agile development and CI/CD data delivery processes
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Contribute to a landmark transformation of the Department of Education's enterprise data infrastructure
- Collaborate with leading engineers and data experts on high-impact federal modernization initiatives
- Hybrid flexibility while working on solutions that drive policy, analytics, and education outcomes nationwide
