Director of Contracts

A day in the life of a Director of Contracts:
As the Director of Contracts, you are a key member of the leadership team and will be expected to provide contract support and advice to other leaders across the organization. You will play an active role in our continued growth by providing guidance, knowledge, mentorship, and oversight to a team of contract administrators and managers who will support leaders across the company.
Additionally, you will provide oversight and leadership for the preparation, negotiation, acceptance, and management of our portfolio of contracts. You'll direct all phases of the contract administration process from inception through completion including preparing, reviewing, and approving all contractual documents to ensure the protection of the company's contractual posture, the satisfaction of contract specifications and requirements, identification of risk factors, and adherence to company policy, as well as appropriate laws and regulations. This is an active, hands-on position requiring the highest ethical standards. You will also oversee the development and implementation of systems, standards, and mechanisms that guide contracting lifecycle activities to consistently deliver effective solutions to customers.

Have proven experience and business expertise in the application of government contract management principles, concepts, and practices as well as comprehensive contract management and leadership skills. Have interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of management and individual contributors, including the ability to clearly express business concepts in verbal and written forms and the ability to tailor conversations to adapt to business vs. non-business audiences. Key success factors include mastery of the ability to manage complex situations, delegate authority, lead and inspire your team, drive innovative thinking, instill collaboration, drive for success, challenge the status quo, and demonstrate the ability to adapt to dynamic situations.
The ideal candidate will have at least 10+ years of experience in applying government contract management principles, concepts, and practices as well as comprehensive contract management and leadership skills, a recognized professional contract certification, and a Bachelor's degree.
What we are expecting from you (i.e. the qualifications you must have):
  • Lead, and provide direction and assistance to, a team of contracting personnel and improve the overall quality and capability of the organization by developing, mentoring, and retaining top talent.
  • Oversee the negotiation, award, coordination, management, administration, and close-out of contracts and subcontracts and effectively manage customer relationships in face-to-face negotiations with US Government and/or Defense Prime Contractors.
  • Formulate strategies for the resolution of major contractual issues including risk assessment, mitigation strategies, negotiation positions, and contractual implications.
  • Reviews and coordinates all requests for data to ensure the Company is protected and balanced with the customer interest.
  • Ensure overall compliance with governmental law, company, and operating company policies on contracts and procurement.
  • Ability to provide sound interpretation and application of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)/Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFARS), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) compliance, and commercial item rules and regulations.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed within Hexagon US Federal stated guidelines and processes, as well as government and/or commercial guidelines (i.e. FAR, DFARS, UCC, etc.).
  • Maintains an understanding of ITAR/EAR requirements and ensures that export-controlled data is not transmitted through the Contracts Department without appropriate export licenses.
  • Participate with other top managers in developing and establishing business unit, business, company, or corporate-wide policies.
  • Support program management reviews, business strategy sessions, proposal reviews, risk management activities, and all other contract-related matters.
  • Work with internal customers (Business Unit leaders, Program Managers, etc.) ensuring all customer communication related to contracts is handled by contracts personnel
  • Coordinate fact-finding, proposal preparation, justification, documentation, and negotiations of contract modifications.
  • Lead and review all areas of contracting including NDAs, Teaming Agreements, Agreements, Bailments, Partner, Reseller, Consulting, Software License Agreements, and other strategic documents as required across the business.
  • Ensure the management of contract files including preparation and control of all modifications and correspondence with Contracting Officers or Prime Contractors.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-volume contracting environment.
  • Ability to analyze a problem and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Presentation skills with the ability to distill and explain complex information simply and concisely.
Required Level of Security Clearance: Top Secret
