Duties

As a TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST (COMSEC) GS-0391-11, you will perform duties as the Northeast Air Defense Sector Communications Security (COMSEC) Manager, providing secure and efficient COMSEC operations.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a two year trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.
  • The employee may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
  • The employee will also perform duties as the primary facility manager, safe and equipment custodian.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Incumbent must be eligible to obtain and maintain a TS or TS/SCI security clearance (Special Compartmented Information), as required.
  • The work involves considerable recurring physical exertion, such as standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Packages picked up may weigh up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position within one year of appointment.
Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE :
1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level. Specialized experience includes experience, education and training that provided knowledge of communications equipment, systems, services, and transmission media; knowledge of electronic communications concepts, principles, practices, procedures, policies, standards, and operational requirements; application of specialized communications methods and analytical techniques; technical knowledge of the operational and performance characteristics of communications equipment, automated control and network management systems, transmission media, and the relationships among component parts of telecommunications systems; and competencies in the subject matter or business processes associated with the DoD, U.S. Army, or U.S. Air Force telecommunication programs.

Education

If using education to qualify,

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

This position is designated by Air Force as a testing designated position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian drug-testing program. The incumbent is (a) to refrain from use of illegal drugs and (b) if requested, submit to urinalysis testing. The individual must sign a statement acknowledging the position occupied is identified as a TDP.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
