Location: Onsite Washington DC (Capitol Hill)

Clearance: Must be a US Citizen and able to pass a background check.

Workdays/Hours: Monday - Friday 7am - 3pm

Compensation: 30/hr + HW

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and professional Custom Picture Frame & Cabinet Maker to support the needs of the U.S. House of Representatives. This specialized role requires excellence in custom woodwork and framing, as well as exceptional customer service and communication skills. The position involves designing, fabricating, and assembling custom picture frames and cabinetry, while working directly with Congressional offices and staff. A strong sense of professionalism, attention to detail, and pride in craftsmanship are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, construct, and finish high-quality custom wood cabinetry and picture frames to meet specific design and dimension requirements.
  • Cut, assemble, and install framing components including matting, glass, backing, and hardware with archival-quality precision.
  • Measure and cut glass safely and accurately to match various frame sizes.
  • Handle artwork and materials with care and professionalism in accordance with preservation standards.
  • Deliver and install completed frames and cabinetry in Congressional offices and public spaces as required.
  • Read and interpret design specifications, drawings, and technical plans.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with Representatives, Chiefs of Staff, and support staff to capture their design intent and timelines.
  • Provide timely updates, schedule coordination, and status tracking of assigned projects.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment and adhere to U.S. Capitol building protocols.


Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Proven experience in custom cabinet making, picture framing, and glass cutting.
  • Expertise in woodworking and assembly techniques including cutting, joining, and finishing.
  • Proficient in the safe use of both manual and powered tools and machinery.
  • Read and interpret design specifications, drawings, and technical plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide courteous, responsive, and professional customer service.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, especially when working with non-technical clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with competing deadlines while maintaining quality and precision.
  • Familiarity with conservation framing techniques and museum-quality standards.
  • Must maintain discretion and professionalism while working in governmental environments.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Apprenticeship or formal training in cabinetmaking, carpentry, or fine framing.
  • Experience supporting institutional or government clients.
  • Familiarity with federal building safety, delivery, and access protocols.
  • Knowledge of modern framing materials including UV-protective glass, acrylic, and archival adhesives.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform installations in varied on-site environments.

  • Table saws, band saws, routers, jointers, planers
  • Miter saws, biscuit joiners, drills, clamps, hand tools
  • Sanders, nail guns, wood glue, layout squares, finishing brushes
Framing & Glass Handling
  • Glass cutter (oil-fed), scoring tools, glass runner pliers
  • Mat cutter, underpinner/V-nailer, point driver
  • Mounting tools, wire, D-rings, spacers, corner clamps
  • Safety gear: gloves, goggles, respirators, hearing protection
Finishing & Installation
  • Stains, sealers, varnishes, paints, brushes, and sprayers
  • Suction cups, microfiber cloths, levelers, anchors and fasteners
  • Ladders or step stools for onsite installations


Work Environment
  • Based in a workshop and on-site in House office buildings and Congressional spaces.
  • Professional attire, demeanor, and communication required when interacting with Members of Congress and staff.
  • Must adhere to all building access and security procedures for the U.S. Capitol Complex.
  • Physical requirements include lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
