About the Company
Neuma Consulting LLC is a minority-owned business providing consulting services to defense and intelligence agencies. Our professionals are consulted to craft revolutionary business and technical solutions that ensure mission success. Our in-depth industry experience coupled with our technical expertise allows us to deliver timely solutions positioning our clients with a decisive advantage.

Overview
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will lead data exploration, advanced analytics, modeling, and visualization efforts to extract strategic insights and drive mission-critical decisions in an agile environment. You will apply deep expertise in statistics, machine learning, and data engineering, paired with domain knowledge, to shape analytic solutions that impact national security.

You will operate with significant independence, selecting innovative methodologies and designing scalable solutions for complex problems. Your work will directly inform deliverables, performance metrics, and mission outcomes — transforming raw data into actionable intelligence for decision-makers.

Minimum Requirements
• 10+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or related fields, with at least 5 years directly supporting data-driven projects in the past 7 years.
• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline from an accredited U.S. institution.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.

The Challenge
Are you passionate about uncovering insights in complex datasets and applying cutting-edge techniques to solve high-impact, mission-critical problems? As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll lead efforts to transform massive structured and unstructured datasets into intelligence that shapes policy and operations for DoD leadership and the intelligence community.

This is more than an analytical role — it’s a leadership opportunity. You’ll drive innovation, set technical direction, mentor junior data scientists, and help shape enterprise data strategies. From fraud detection to predictive modeling to national security applications, your work will directly influence real-world outcomes.

This position is 100% onsite at DIA HQ in SE Washington, DC.

What You’ll Do
• Lead Data Exploration and Analysis: Direct data cleaning, transformation, and analysis for large-scale structured and unstructured datasets to uncover key insights.
• Develop Advanced Models and Algorithms: Build and deploy predictive models, statistical methods, and machine learning solutions tailored to mission objectives.
• Strategic Visualization and Communication: Create compelling data visualizations and dashboards, translating complex analyses into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership.
• Mentor and Guide: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of best practices and innovation.
• Drive Automation and Scalability: Architect and implement automated data pipelines and analytic solutions that scale efficiently and reliably.
• Shape Data Strategy: Partner with mission stakeholders to identify analytic opportunities and align solutions with evolving operational needs.

What You Bring
• 10+ years of hands-on experience in data exploration, cleaning, analysis, visualization, or mining.
• 5+ years working with both structured and unstructured data at scale.
• Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL for statistical analysis and model development.
• Proven experience designing and implementing predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and data visualizations.
• Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP), text mining, and advanced machine learning methods.
• Demonstrated ability to automate and optimize data workflows.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to brief technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
• Active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

Nice to Have
• Experience designing and optimizing algorithms in Python and SQL.
• Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their operational applications.
• Hands-on experience with Python data science and visualization libraries (Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
• Familiarity with Excel VBA for specialized analysis.
• Prior experience in a lead or principal data science role within defense, intelligence, or similarly complex domains.
