Software Engineer (Backend Developer/ DevOps Engineer)

Country Intelligence Group is seeking a Full-Time Software Engineer (Backend Developer/ DevOps Engineer) to support our client in the design, development, and sustainment of scalable backend services and cloud infrastructure in Fort Meade, MD. The selected candidate will work within a modern CI/CD pipeline to build and manage RESTful APIs and microservices, primarily using Java and Spring Boot, deployed in cloud environments such as AWS ECS, Lambda, RDS, and S3. The candidate will also help implement and maintain infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform and CloudFormation, and support production systems through robust monitoring and troubleshooting. This role requires collaboration with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to deliver secure, high-performance, end-to-end solutions.
Tasks Performed:
• Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using Spring Boot and Java.
• Build and manage scalable RESTful APIs deployed to AWS cloud infrastructure (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3).
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production systems using tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, or the ELK stack.
• Write unit and integration tests to ensure code reliability and maintainability.
• Optimize backend applications for performance, scalability, and security.
• Collaborate across DevOps, frontend, and product teams to integrate backend services into broader systems.
Education, Experience and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least 14 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3).
• Experience developing RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Experience with Spring Boot and Java for building microservices.
• Experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
• Experience optimizing application performance, scalability, and security.
• Experience writing unit and integration tests to ensure code quality.
• Experience with production system monitoring and troubleshooting using tools like CloudWatch, Prometheus, or ELK stack.
• Experience collaborating with DevOps, frontend, and product teams in agile environments.
• Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and modern software deployment workflows.

• Minimum Active Top Secret/SCI security clearance with Full-Scope Polygraph (within the past 7 years).
• U.S. Citizenship, and successful background check.
