Leidos is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Technician to support the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) and assist in the fabrication of flight and mockup hardware for various spaceflight programs and commercial endeavors. This role involves hands-on manufacturing and technical support to ensure hardware is built to meet mission requirements, with a focus on quality and precision in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

The Manufacturing Technician will support prototyping, 3D printing, soft goods design and repair, electronic and mechanical component fabrication, and large-scale mockups or equipment builds. The role requires a high level of attention to detail, adherence to NASA workmanship standards, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Manufacturing: Operate CNC machines in the manufacturing and assemble protective foam assemblies to ensure the safe transport of flight hardware
  • Prototyping and Fabrication: Provide hands-on support for prototyping, 3D printing, and the fabrication of soft goods, electronic, mechanical, and large-scale mockups or equipment builds.
  • Technical Engineering Support: Perform technical tasks as outlined in work authorizing documents, ensuring compliance with engineering and safety standards.
  • Cable and Electronic Component Fabrication: Fabricate cables and electronic components in accordance with NASA-recognized workmanship standards, including soldering, harness and cable assembly, staking, and conformal coating.
  • Flight Preparation: Wrap cables with non-flammable materials and prepare hardware for flight processing.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform maintenance on shop equipment, and other electrical, electronic, or mechanical components.
  • Project Management: Support multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.


Basic Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 7 years' related experience in manufacturing, design, and fabrication.
  • Comprehensive experience in the use of powered and unpowered tools to fabricate end items.
  • Proficient in reading and implementing requirements from engineering drawings, work orders, and related documentation.
  • Familiarity with the engineering drawing process and tool calibration.
  • General knowledge of mathematics and computer science.
  • Experience in operating CNC routers and additive manufacturing equipment.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.



Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in mockup fabrication for the NASA community.
  • Experience in cable and electronic component fabrication utilizing NASA-recognized workmanship standards, including soldering, harness and cable assembly, staking, and conformal coating.
  • Proficiency in printed wiring board (PWB) population using various soldering techniques (through-hole and surface mount).
  • Electronics troubleshooting expertise.
  • Familiarity with fiber optics systems and components.
  • Working knowledge of the Maximo Inventory Management System.
  • Experience in running and programming additive manufacturing systems.
  • Proficiency in Creo and Simplify3D software for design and manufacturing applications.
  • Experience in foam or plastics fabrication.


Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance; due to contract requirements, U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent residency is required.
