Program Overview

About The Role

Peraton is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer to join our team in Greenbelt, Maryland to support our Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) site survey activities and/or analyses of the NASA Space Geodesy Network (NSGN).

This position supports the NASA Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) operations, maintenance, and test and integration of electronic and electromechanical systems. Responsibilities will include:
  • Performing the analysis, design, fabrication, test and integration of electrical systems for ground system applications.
  • Modifying, testing, and replacing electronic, electromechanical, and electro-optical subsystems and components as necessary to ensure operability and maintainability of the SLR network.
  • Developing and executing test plans for components, subsystem, and system verification and acceptance.
  • Troubleshooting problems with electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and systems.
  • Providing hardware maintenance services which may include installation or modification and re-installation of existing equipment, preventive and corrective maintenance, and replacement of equipment as needed to maintain original hardware configuration functionality.
  • Replacing components and wiring circuits, repairing simple electronic equipment, and taking test readings using common instruments such as digital multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, curve tracers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Applying comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting manufacturers' manuals or similar documents.
  • Preparing documentation of changes in equipment architecture and cabling configurations.
  • Performing duties in accordance with all systems engineering and configuration management policies and procedures.
  • Reviewing and updating operations and maintenance documentation.
  • Analyzing and interpreting test results and preparing summary reports.
  • Identifying design alternatives and performing trade studies for system upgrades or replacement of obsolete equipment.

Qualifications

Required Experience:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or mathematics is required. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
  • 1+ years of experience performing hands-on work repairing electrical and electronic systems including hands-on work.
  • Experience using test instruments to evaluate electrical, mechanical, or optical systems and components.
  • Security clearance - this position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Secret security clearance and to maintain the clearance thereafter.

Desired Experience:
  • Experience evaluating electro-optic elements, subsystems, and systems for ground-based systems including lasers, detectors, and beam control assemblies.
  • Experience integrating and configuring timing equipment for high precision servo control, data measurement, and processing systems/subsystems.
  • Experience using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the systems engineering life cycle from the specification and analysis of requirements, through the design of the hardware or software, procurement, fabrication, assembly, to integration and test to verify that system requirements have been realized.

Details

Target Salary Range: $66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
