Verity is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support multiple aerovehicle prototyping projects in
Huntsville, Alabama. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing high-level technical
support while working with a diverse team of engineering/programmatic professionals to ensure
project goals and timelines are achieved.
Responsibilities:
• Be a key contributor of design, development, testing and modification of all mechanical,
structural, and thermal systems that reside on an aerovehicle and its sub-systems and
payloads
• Develop thermal architectures to maintain component temperature within operational
limits
• Conduct analyses including Finite Element Analysis
• Support engineering efforts in preparation for Critical Design Reviews (CDRs)
• Generate technical reports, test documentation, and design review material
• Ensure traceability of requirements and compliance with standards
• Perform static, modal, dynamic, and fatigue analyses
• Support qualification and acceptance test planning and correlation of analytical models
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools like ANSYS and other tools
• CAD modeling using SolidWorks
• Structural dynamics and vibration analysis (e.g., sine, random vibration, shock)
• Load path and margin of safety calculations (e.g., static strength, buckling, fatigue)
• Mass properties estimation and management (CG, MOI)
• Select materials considering strength, weight, thermal, and environmental performance
• Generate design drawings and system schematics as well as conduct analysis to support
and substantiate design approaches
• Generation of test plans, technical reports, and presentations documenting the work
performed
• Instrumentation, connectivity, and troubleshooting software
• Present proposals to internal teammates and customers
• Operate 3D printing & process equipment for printed component fabrication
• Support the 3D printing process for: rapid prototyping, production parts and tooling
• Support/implement Design For Assembly and Manufacturability (DFAM) concepts
• Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and manufacturability issues
• Work within a multi-disciplinary team to make design recommendations that ensure
mission success and design robustness and longevity
• Assist in developing procurement documentation to support large scale design efforts
• Assist in the coordination with key vendors and/or suppliers
• Assist in the management and organization of government furnished equipment (GFE)
• Review and mentorship of lower-level engineers if applicable
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education/Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in an applicable engineering area (mechanical, aerospace,
manufacturing, and engineering technology, etc.) Additional experience may substitute
for degree
• 2-10 years of relevant experience
• Knowledge and/or experience in the design and analysis of mechanical systems
• Knowledge and/or experience in the use of FEA software such as CALCULIX
• Knowledge and/or experience in the use of CAD software including Solid Works
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
• Ability to travel to suppliers as required
• U. S. Citizenship is required
