Schedule: Part-time, primarily onsite (telework optional up to 20%)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Test Site Engineer to support the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Prototype, Manufacturing, and Test Department (PMTD). This position provides critical engineering expertise for Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) systems, including the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG).
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of ALRE test site systems and hands-on experience executing large-scale test operations. This role directly supports prototyping, testing, certification, and shipboard integration of next-generation launch and recovery systems for U.S. Navy aircraft carriers.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage, plan, and execute test and development projects using deadloads and jet cars.
• Provide engineering support across test site systems including EMALS fire control, hydraulic power units, process water systems, and nose gear launch systems.
• Support engineering, installation, testing, and certification efforts aboard CVN 78/79 aircraft carriers.
• Provide project engineering and management support for Capital Improvement Program (CIP) design, construction, and post-construction outfitting.
• Support ongoing test operations at facilities such as the ship motion platform, jet car track site, and Runway Arrested Landing Site (RALS).
• Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve system performance discrepancies for ALRE and SE systems.
• Develop and review technical data, drawings, schematics, and manuals for accuracy and producibility.
• Interface with engineering, production, and quality personnel to ensure test and manufacturing program requirements are met.
Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 10+ years of engineering experience in prototyping, manufacturing, testing, repair, and overhaul.
• 5+ years of direct experience with EMALS/AAG and legacy recovery system test requirements and facilities.
• Demonstrated expertise with test and development projects utilizing deadloads and jet cars.
• Working knowledge of EMALS fire control systems, test site hydraulic/power/process water systems, and nose gear launch systems.
• Experience supporting shipboard certification and troubleshooting for EMALS/AAG aboard CVN aircraft carriers.
• Strong background in engineering project management, including CIP efforts.
• Active TOP SECRET clearance (required, no exceptions).
Additional Information
• Work is primarily performed onsite at JBMDL (Lakehurst, NJ). Up to 20% telework is permitted.
• Normal hours are 0600–1530, with possible variations between 0500–1730.
• Part-time role, with potential for long-term program support.
