Overview

Intelligent Waves is seeking a System Engineer Level II to support our cybersecurity contract at Fort Meade, MD. The selected candidate will serve as a hardware engineer with hands-on experience in field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), proficiency with ModelSim for VHDL or Verilog HDL coding and simulations, and familiarity with Xilinx tools. In this role, the engineer will manage system and derived requirements to ensure production systems align with established architectures, including the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Additional responsibilities include assisting with the development of system and functional requirements, allocating requirements across hardware, software, facility, and personnel components, and supporting the creation of alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions tailored to customer needs.

Responsibilities

System Engineering

  • Lead systems engineering efforts across the full lifecycle: requirements analysis, design, integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Develop system specifications, architecture, and integration strategies to meet mission objectives.
  • Manage risk, evaluate system performance, and troubleshoot issues in highly secure environments.
  • Apply engineering best practices to ensure compliance with security and mission requirements.

Collaboration & Expertise

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including software, hardware, and cyber engineers.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in FPGA and VHDL operations and sustainment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
      • In lieu of a degree, an additional five (5) years of relevant experience may be substituted.
  • Systems Engineering Experience:
    • Level 2: Fourteen (14) years with degree, or nineteen (19) years without degree.
  • Must have experience with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
  • Must have experience with ModelSim, for VHSIC hardware description language (VHDL) or Verilog HDL coding and simulations.
  • Must have experience with Xilinx tools.
