Job Summary

Galapagos Federal Systems, LLC is seeking an accomplished Acquisition Specialist Level 4 - Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the United States Space Force (USSF). This senior-level role offers a unique opportunity to directly influence mission success and the advancement of space operations.

As a key member of the team, you will provide expert guidance in federal acquisition, leading efforts in market research, acquisition strategy development, and Request for Proposal (RFP) preparation. You will also evaluate technical proposals to confirm alignment with mission, program, and compliance requirements, while advising stakeholders on best practices to strengthen procurement outcomes.

Your expertise will help shape complex acquisition decisions and drive long-term strategic objectives for the Space Force. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with extensive defense acquisition experience, capable of informing high-level decisions that advance national security and expand U.S. space capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Acquisition Specialist SME will:

* Develop acquisition strategies, conduct market research, and define evaluation criteria
* Provide expert guidance on contract requirements, source selection, and cost-schedule-performance integration
* Support risk management activities and ensure proactive identification and mitigation of risks
* Contribute to product development and science & technology programs, providing direct support to program offices
* Advise senior leadership and engage with executive-level defense stakeholders on acquisition priorities
* Ensure alignment of acquisition activities with U.S. Space Force structure, mission objectives, and stakeholder priorities
* Collaborate effectively across teams while also working independently to drive program success

Required Skills & Experience

The Acquisition Specialist SME must have:

* Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance
* 15+ years of Department of Defense (DoD) experience in contracts and subcontracts, with full life cycle acquisition involvement
* Recognized for strong analytical skills and a proven track record in complex acquisition environments
* Deep expertise in Air Force and Space Force acquisition, including strategy, evaluation, and contract execution
* Well-versed in risk management and the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) process
* Demonstrated experience supporting product development and science & technology programs
* Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with leadership experience engaging senior and executive-level defense stakeholders

Education & Certifications

The Acquisition Specialist SME must meet the following:

Required

* Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
* Master's degree in a relevant field

Preferred

* Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) certification in Program Management or related functional areas
* Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Security Clearance

Must be a U.S. Citizen. A high-level Department of Defense active security clearance is/may be required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to government information.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time and typing and reading from a computer screen. The candidate must have enough mobility, including bending, reaching, and kneeling, to complete daily duties in a prompt and efficient manner, and that may include lifting up to thirty pounds, as necessary.
