GIS Technician - Senior

Ability to obtain a NACI clearance

This position requires a Common Access Card (CAC), the ability to pass the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) clearance to acquire a Common Access Card (CAC).

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen AND an active Secret CLEARANCE or the ability to obtain this clearance

A government contract requires that this position be restricted to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. You must provide documentation that you are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to qualify.

The Senior Geographic Information System (GIS) position will support the HQ PACAF/A4C Design Cell located at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, focused on military "troop training" projects in the Pacific Region (primarily at "Places without Bases" locations). This position will coordinate with the 365th Expeditionary Theater Support Group (ETSG), Headquarters PACAF/A4C staff and the 36th Civil Engineer Squadron personnel to collect, analyze, and manage geographic data using specialized software tools and techniques. Working with various types of spatial data, including maps, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and survey data, to create and maintain digital maps and databases.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for GIS Technician - Senior: Pay commensurate with experience.

GIS Technician - Senior Responsibilities Include:
  • Creates advanced geodatabase models for use by GIS professionals and technicians in engineering design cell.
  • Collects data to include: field collection, identifying, compiling, arranging, sorting, organizing, incorporating, reviewing, and determining applicability.
  • Provides analysis to include: comparatives, gaps, needs, values, limits, applications, matrices, identification, feasibility, feedback, process, models, impacts, issues, manipulation, organizational, performance, and recommendations.
  • Conducts research that includes benchmarking, developing models and/or methodologies, forecasting, and recommendations to include: Business process improvement, Implementation planning, metric development and analysis.
  • Perform data analysis, spatial modeling, and cartographic design to create maps and visualizations for use in planning, decision-making, and research across various industries such as airfields, environmental management, and natural resource management.
  • Supports project plans, project design details, design specifications, and assist other members of the design cell with civil engineering related technical tasks.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

GIS Technician - Senior Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Geology, Earth Science, Urban Planning, Environmental Science or other GIS related field and five years' work experience with the use of common GIS and image processing tools.
  • Skilled with the use of ESRI ArcGIS software, including Arc Info, ArcView, and Arc Editor, or similar software.
  • Proficient in geospatial data manipulation, processes, and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of spatial data management, including designing, creating, updating and maintaining geo-databases, editing vector and raster datasets.
  • A good understanding of coordinate reference systems and datum, geospatial data formats, and raster data types.
  • Record of accountability for maintaining data consistency and quality, with a proven ability to develop and learn new skills with evolving GIS technology.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) including data maintenance, collection, and data standards, geo-referencing digital and paper maps.
  • Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop software, Python and/or ModelBuilder to create automation tools to increase data development productivity desired.
  • Ability to obtain a NACI clearance and CAC Card.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
