Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a VMWARE Systems Administrator to join our team supporting our FROST program on-site onsite at Schriever SFB, near Colorado Springs. Front Range Operations and Sustainment Team (FROST) program Liaisons with the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and Satellite Control Network (SCN)to support our Front Range Operations and Sustainment Team (FROST) program, and to provide satellite support services to our mission critical customer.

FROST conducts real time on-orbit support, launch ascent support and End-of-Life operations for all NOPS (NRO Operations Squadron) missions. On FROST we collect performance data on launches for the NRO, Department of Defense (DOD), NASA, and commercial industries. You will provide the NRO with a single operational and engineering interface to the Satellite Control Network (SCN).

The VMWARE Systems Administrator provides support to a geographically separated, multi-domain network infrastructure that enables strategic space operations, including spacecraft launch activities. We are continually upgrading our infrastructure to meet the cutting-edge demands of new space programs,

Job responsibilities:
  • Setup, configuration, and maintenance, for compute and storage infrastructure supporting strategic space operations.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Orbit Analysts, SETAs, Government Personnel, and Operations Personnel.
  • Storage infrastructure support
  • Install, configure, and administer VMware
  • Assist Tracking tasks and report problems with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Monitor Linux-based physical and virtual servers
  • Conduct routine system audits, software/hardware inventory, and performance monitoring.
  • Manage system upgrades, patches, and configuration changes.
  • Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and work products.
  • Occasionally Support after-hours to support spacecraft launch events.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 Years experience or a Master's degree with 6 years' experience or a High School diploma / Equivalent with 12 years' experience e may be accepted in Lieu of degree
  • Experience Installing, configuring, and administering VMware
  • TS/SCI Counterintelligence Polygraph
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Familiar with Kubernetes.
  • Experience with RedHat Linux
  • Experience with networking concepts such as configuring VLANs and Subnets.
  • Familiar with PowerShell scripting.
  • Occasionally Support after-hours to support spacecraft launch events.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using MBSE & Cameo
  • Experience with Windows Server, LDAP integration, and server certificates.
  • Subject matter expertise in Kubernetes.
  • Subject matter expertise in Tanzu
  • Subject matter expertise PowerCLI scripting.
  • Experience with the challenges associated with systems integration, including COTS integration, capacity analysis, and system architecture design.
  • Experience using automation tools to maintain a system configuration baseline, and to execute tasks such as software installs and vulnerability patches.
  • Experience with automating certificate management to support DevSecOps deployments.
  • Experience hardening system environments by optimizing storage partitions to meet STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) and custom application requirements.
  • Experience with establishing and configuring Gitlab CI/CD (Continuous Integration Continuous Delivery) pipeline.
  • Experience with Splunk to include creating dashboards to monitor the state of critical system components.
  • Experience with cross domain solutions spanning across different levels of security classification.
  • Experience working within a multi-site infrastructure.
  • Experience with converting and transmitting RF (Radio Frequency) data using TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol Internet Protocol) methods.


Primary Level Salary Range: $113,500.00 - $170,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
