Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Launch and Missile Defense Systems have an exciting career opportunity for a Software Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position, based in Huntsville, AL, plays a vital role in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not offer relocation support and requires on-site work with no options for remote work.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a vital part of the Missile Defense System. It provides a key operational platform that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability, delivering an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It functions as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a critical component of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.
This position is for a Software Engineer on the C2BMC program. The selected candidate will be responsible for software development in Java for one of the Regional Applications teams in Huntsville (Battle Management, System-Arch, or Track Server). Under supervision, you will provide specialized expertise within multiple systems and software disciplines, as well as general knowledge of related disciplines, application implications, and customer areas.

Primary Level Salary Range: $85,400.00 - $128,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Essential Functions:
- Responsible for conducting in-depth analysis and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
- Keeps software products current, debugs, and configures related systems
- Develops or modifies operating system applications based on specifications
- Assists with design, coding, benchmarking, debugging, and documentation of programs
- Collaborates with other system support teams to resolve issues, establish standards, and enhance the overall efficiency of the operating system
- Handles most phases of software systems programming applications and may need minor instruction and guidance in other areas
Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 2 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 0 years of relevant work experience, or 6 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business needs
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Must be familiar with common software development and management tools such as:
- Maven
- git/GitHub
- Nexus
- Eclipse
- Understanding Agile development methodologies
- Understanding standard system engineering design artifacts like Use Cases and SysML diagrams
- Experience with software engineering and software development with Java/J2EE experience or other object-oriented development experience
- Knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management
- Candidate must have strong oral, written, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
- Familiarity with problem-solving skills, including the ability to review performance and operational issues, identify root causes, and recommend, design, and implement solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with agile development methodologies
- Experience developing enterprise applications on Linux (Windows experience also preferred)
- Command and control system application development
- Experience with software integration and formal testing
- Knowledge of and experience implementing Cyber Security/RMF requirements
- Ability to communicate advanced concepts to non-software engineers, including senior program and military leaders
- Experience with performance modeling
- Experience with microservices
- Experience with DevSecOps and/or build management
- Willingness to undertake unanticipated tasks
- The successful candidate will be capable of working independently and will possess the poise and flexibility required in a highly dynamic environment
