Qualifications
GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: recording pertinent data, events, and logs; and initiating pre-arrival instructions to callers for fire, medical, police and other emergencies and/or non-emergencies.
GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: receiving and processing incoming fire alarms, 911 calls, and emergency and non-emergency requests for services for police, fire, and medical incidents.
This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an Emergency Medical Dispatcher OR Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) certificate. If applicant is DCI certified in another state, he/she must become NC State DCI certified within 90 days of employment. Employee must not have been previously de-certified due to misuse of the DCI system.
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
This position requires rotating shift work.
If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
- You will receive all emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance for (fire, police, ambulance and others) on the radio and/or telephone, Base 911, Sprint E-911.
- You will assist callers on Telephone for Deaf Deficient (TDD), 911 ATT and administrative lines.
- You will determine the nature and type of the problem/emergency, and the type of emergency equipment needed for initial response to the location of the incident.
- You will scan charts, grid maps, and computer monitors to determine what units are available to respond to the emergency.
- You will operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and other computer equipment.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a CPR/First Aid certification within six months.
