Duties

  • You will receive all emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance for (fire, police, ambulance and others) on the radio and/or telephone, Base 911, Sprint E-911.
  • You will assist callers on Telephone for Deaf Deficient (TDD), 911 ATT and administrative lines.
  • You will determine the nature and type of the problem/emergency, and the type of emergency equipment needed for initial response to the location of the incident.
  • You will scan charts, grid maps, and computer monitors to determine what units are available to respond to the emergency.
  • You will operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and other computer equipment.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a CPR/First Aid certification within six months.
  • You will be required to obtain additional certifications for this position.

Qualifications

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: recording pertinent data, events, and logs; and initiating pre-arrival instructions to callers for fire, medical, police and other emergencies and/or non-emergencies.

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: receiving and processing incoming fire alarms, 911 calls, and emergency and non-emergency requests for services for police, fire, and medical incidents.

This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

Education

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-05:
  • I have successfully completed four years of education above high school level.

OR
  • I have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

Military Spouse Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ). A BQ military spouse possesses knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies comparable to others who meet the competitive referral criteria for the specific position.

PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an Emergency Medical Dispatcher OR Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) certificate. If applicant is DCI certified in another state, he/she must become NC State DCI certified within 90 days of employment. Employee must not have been previously de-certified due to misuse of the DCI system.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position requires rotating shift work.

If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
