The United States Space Force (USSF) at Patrick Space Force Base, FL is searching for a Chief, Safety Analysis, SLD 45/SE (NH-0803-04, GS-14/15 Equivalent).
Description:
Provides technical advice and consultation to the Chief of Safety and Chief Engineer in the fields of ordnance, pressure systems, hazardous fuels, hazardous operations, RF radiation, software, facilities, payload hazards, lifting equipment and range instrumentation. Provides technical expert to the AF, DOD, civil, and commercial agencies in the areas of launch vehicle, payload, and facility system safety. Supports overall management and operation of SLD 45/SE, including safety, security, and quality. In periods when senior management is unavailable or cannot support, supports day-of-launch activities as Chief of Safety, launch rehearsals, prelaunch reviews, approves safety noncompliance's and recommends course of action to Delta Commander for mission support. Serves as a technical expert on the problems associated with the design, assembly, checkout, and launch of launch vehicle boosters, spacecraft and upper stages which involve broad and complex scientific areas for which there may be consensus standards or no standard exists.
Ideal Candidate:
Ideal candidate will serve as Supervisory Safety Engineer for subordinate System Safety engineers, Flight Termination System engineers, Pad Safety Occupational Safety & Health Manager and Specialists. Plans, directs, organizes, and guides control to empower subordinates to function independently as program managers, within established guidelines; and enact the overall system safety responsibilities assigned to and delegated from the Delta Commander.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of management and engineering (emphasis on safety engineering) principles, purposes, functions, and values including regulations, standards, techniques, and processes for highly complex missile systems, safety programs, and program management.
2. Knowledge of general professional engineering and program manager activity and responsibility.
3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of a staff of approximately 30 federal civilian engineers and technicians both directly and through subordinate supervisors, with focus on launch safety and mission support.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to approach, present, and persuade higher management to support recommendations/resolutions.
5. Ability to apply conventional knowledge, experience, and expertise to develop new ways to conduct business while maintaining focus on safety and mission support.
6. Ability to supervise highly complex and technical professional safety engineering work.

- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Position will close in 5 business days or 75 applications (whichever comes first).
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework"
- May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
- PCS / Incentive funding are authorized.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- Must exhibit a high degree of judgment, resourcefulness, originality, and the ability to foresee and adapt to the impact of changing technology.
- A professional engineering degree at the bachelor's level from an ABET accredited institution, or in a closely related technical field as desired by the hiring organization, is required.
- This position has been designated for drug testing.
- This is a Key position. Incumbents must be removed from their military recall status if alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
