The Undersea Weapons, Vehicles and Defensive Systems Department (Code 85) of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) is the Navy's Center for warfare systems including: torpedoes, countermeasures, unmanned undersea vehicles, tactical systems, underwater targets, multi-weapon simulators, and weapon systems. In pursuit of its mission, Code 85 develops, maintains, manages, and operates unique and specialized computer laboratory facilities and resources to support research, development, simulation, test and evaluation. NUWCDIVNPT is tasked with the responsibility for all hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) torpedo simulation efforts. This mandate covers all torpedoes (heavyweight/lightweight) and includes related systems such as targets, models, support and test equipment, operational software, software tools, countermeasures, and Unmanned Undersea Vehicles (UUVs). The Undersea Vehicles Modeling & Simulation Branch Code 8515 including the Weapons Analysis Facility (WAF), of the Advanced Technology Modeling and Simulation Division (851) is responsible for meeting the dedicated computer requirements for all torpedo simulation efforts. Dedicated mission critical computer laboratory resources and other resources are an integral part of virtually every significant weapon system. As such, Code 8515 is responsible for assuring the quality, security, safety, reliability, and maintainability of all these resources. These responsibilities include providing technical and operational services for these resource facilities.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Computer Operator II will perform data tracking and transactions, maintain media, perform security checks within the Weapons Analysis Factory (WAF), a secure hardware and software development lab on the Weapons Analysis Facility (WAF) Operational Support Services contract. This position is located in Newport, RI.

What You'll Do
  • Serve as Media Transfer Agent (MTA)/Data Transfer Agent (DTA), creating media and transferring data across domains or between domains of different classifications
  • Perform virus scans on multiple types of media while following standard security procedures and protocols within the WAF
  • Provide comprehensive support to the Weapons Analysis Facility (WAF) user community
  • Set up WAF laptops for short-term loans to the user community
  • Support the facility by logging and tracking building service calls, escorting uncleared workers, and completing other tasking as required
  • Monitor system activities and resources, implementing corrective actions when necessary
  • Perform regular and ad hoc system backups on diverse platforms
  • Provide support for the WAF library using the Base Inventory Tracking (BITs) library system and following WAF library standard operating procedures
  • Respond to general service calls and paging requests to provide service and troubleshooting
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • An active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position OR the ability to obtain and maintain an active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • Associate's degree from an accredited university required.
  • At least two (2) years of experience providing support to the DoD is required.
  • Basic understanding of IT systems, computer hardware, and networking concepts
  • Comfortable providing end-user support in a professional environment
  • Experience with virus scanning tools and standard security protocols
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and data entry skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, changing, and challenging environment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting the DoD in secure environments/enclaves

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain seated in a stationary position 50% of the time. Must also be able to alternate between sitting, standing, and walking.
