Principal System Safety Engineer needed for a Contract opportunity with SOC's client to work onsite in Tucson, AZ.

Contract length: 1+ year, possible to convert

*Candidates must have an active Secret clearance to be considered for this role.

Our client has an exciting opportunity for a full-time position of Principal System Safety Engineer located onsite in Tucson, Arizona. This role focuses on analyzing hardware and electrical designs to ensure safety compliance, eliminating hazards, and creating solutions that balance safety with performance. It also requires leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with program management and government authorities from program start through final disposal.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Design of concise, testable safety requirements or providing safety analysis of existing requirements
  • Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
  • Placement in challenging or under-performing programs with the expectation of improvement of the safety program
  • Managing multiple-large system safety programs or a safety product line
  • Collaborating with other disciplines during program technical execution.
  • Interfacing with key stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
  • Mentoring Multiple Jr. Engineers
  • Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
  • Streamlining processes and reports across a product line for improved efficiency
  • Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
  • Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
  • Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience, OR Associate's degree and 10 years, OR advanced degree and 5 years, OR 12 years of relevant experience with no degree
  • Experience with System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software/Firmware Engineering, or equivalent safety engineering experience in Aerospace, Automotive, or Medical Devices
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
  • Systems thinking and ability to influence the overall program
  • Experience with industry System Safety Programs (especially in DoD or Aerospace)
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills, including managing a safety program and directing safety personnel
  • Degree in STEM (preferred)
  • Experience working with U.S. Military programs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • EVMS certification, Program Management certification, or equivalent certification.
  • Demonstrate IPTL experience showing the ability to collaborate with program office, cross-functional teams, and internal/external customers.
  • Strong influential communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present analytic and performance results from program to functional leadership.
  • Experience in small/medium program execution.
  • Demonstrate understanding of engineering development, transition to production, production, and maintenance.
  • Experience with proposal capture and contract processes from receipt of RFP, preparing Basis of Estimates, proposal submittal, preparing Statements of Work, contract startup and contract close-out.
  • Experience with all the functionalities of Automation Test Equipment/Unit Under Test (ATE/UUT).
  • Agile Methodologies understanding.
