Summary

ANG is seeking a Network Engineer - Level II to support the Defense Health Agency Information Technology Department at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This position is onsite at Bethesda, MD.

Essential Functions
  • Deploy and sustain new or existing information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other communications networks.
  • Administers day-to-day sustainment, integrity, security, and availability of the network.
  • Perform daily performance monitoring, capacity analysis, and maintain security posture of the network.
  • May assist architecture and engineering with evaluation, making recommendations and testing of network hardware and software products.
  • Creates standard operating procedures, maintenance guides, and knowledge base articles to ensure proper documentation is established for the operational upkeep of the network.
  • Performs network infrastructure maintenance upgrades to ensure a proper security and operational posture is maintained.
  • Ability to work with other senior technical and user staff to complete projects.
  • Operates with appreciable latitude in developing methodology and presenting solutions to problems.
  • May train less experienced staff.
  • Complete all site required training within stated timelines.
  • Demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Create and provide daily or weekly work reports as required to management.
  • Learn, monitor, manage, and update network management tools.
  • Fiber and copper cabling related support for B11, B54, B55 and as requested by leadership in other buildings. Renovations in B9, B10. AMA Inventories.
  • Obtain, maintain access to DMHRSi program and complete bi-weekly DMHRSi workload documentation.
  • Follow management system policies, procedures, and work instructions as part of daily job duties.
  • Protect company and customer information by adhering to security and quality requirements.
  • Promptly report incidents, nonconformities, or risks to the appropriate authority.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Expresses or exchanges ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.
  • Frequently moves standard office equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work indoor conditions 90% of the time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours required, as required by business need.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected

Experience
  • Four (4) years of progressive experience demonstrating the required proficiency.
  • Preferred Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and/or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in English, written and spoken.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Visio.
  • Provide after-hours on-call and downtime support on rotational basis.
  • Must be able to work on feet for extended periods of time. Must be able to install network equipment. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to respond to network issues and complete assigned trouble tickets at all network data closets.

Education

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalency.
