Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Academic Graduate Appointee to support projects focused on developing and characterizing novel proteolipid and co-polymer-based nanoparticles. In this role, you will design and execute experiments, apply molecular and cellular biology techniques, and analyze results to better understand their impact on innate and cell-mediated immunity. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative scientific research while working in a collaborative team environment. This position is in the Biology and Biotechnology Division, Translational Immunology Group. Position reports to the project manager/Principal Investigator (PI).
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will
- Design, perform, and analyze experiments to develop protocols for producing novel proteolipid nanoparticles and assess their immunological effects.
- Contribute to the design and execution of molecular biology experiments, including biochemical and immunoassay-based analyses.
- Troubleshoot experimental results and support assay development using molecular biology techniques.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, detailed notebooks, and contribute to overall laboratory organization and maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with all ES&H, security, and business practice policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). See Additional Information section below for details.
- B.S. degree in biological or physical sciences (completed within the past two years) or equivalent coursework.
- Experience or working knowledge of immunological assays such as ELISA and flow cytometry (FACS).
- Familiarity with standard molecular biology techniques and instrumentation, including nucleic acid isolation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively in diverse, collaborative teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with time-sensitive deadlines.
- Proficiency in following laboratory protocols and ES&H safety procedures.
- Experience with data management and analysis using software such as Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work with rodent animal models.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with protein expression and purification of proteolipid nanoparticles.
- Proficiency with DNA/RNA extraction methods (e.g., Qiagen kits: minipreps, maxipreps, gel extraction, PCR purification).
- Skilled in Western blotting, ELISA, multicolor flow cytometry, and molecular cloning using restriction enzymes, plasmids, and bacteria.
- Familiarity with PCR amplification, bioinformatics tools, and web-based sequence analysis platforms.
- Experience working with proteins and practicing aseptic technique.
