Duties

  • You will conduct code compliance reviews and site surveys.
  • You will identify program control deficiencies and enable the corrective actions adequate to prevent recurrence.
  • You will serve as the technical advisor to management on matters pertaining to fire and emergency activity.
  • You will monitor the accomplishment of fire prevention inspections of permanent facilities, temporary facilities and special hazards.
  • You will apply knowledge in the inspection, testing and maintenance of fixed fire protection systems, fire alarm and evacuation systems.
  • You will interpret and apply plans, reviews, policies, regulations, directives, instructions and procedures governing fire and emergency services.
  • You will provide recommendations, advice and guidance orally and written to communicate responsibility and coverage of instructions and policies.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain possession of certification by the DoD Firefighter Certification System (IFSAC/Pro-board): Fire Inspector I and II, Fire Instructor I, and Hazardous Materials Awareness.
  • You will be required to obtain Plans Examiner I and NICET Level 1 certifications within one year of employment.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience with the development, coordination, implementation and management of fire protection, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response and fire prevention programs;
  • Experience monitoring the accomplishment of fire prevention inspections of all structures and ships in the shipyard as performed by the regional service providers and/or ship forces;
  • Experience identifying fire and emergency service matters and applying improvements to recognized deficiencies;
  • Experience providing technical advisement either orally or written to management on matters pertaining to fire and emergency service issues.
