Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Detecting fire hazards (potential and immediate) and determining corrective action; 2) Operating firefighting vehicles and equipment in accordance with principles of hydraulics and firefighting techniques; 3) Providing emergency assistance (first aid, HAZMAT, etc.) in accordance with safety standards and regulations; 4) Applying the theory of fire propagation and progression to reduce fire hazards and/or combat fires; 5) Leading a crew of firefighters (i.e. directing drills, assigning work, etc.) (NOTE: Your answer must be supported by information in your resume.)

This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications : Firefighter I/II, Airport Firefighter, Hazmat Tech, Hazmat Incident Command, National EMT registry, Driver Operator Pumper, Driver Operator ARFF, Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I.
These certifications must be awarded by National Registry, DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirements. If you do not possess the certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

- You will perform basic life support.
- You will perform structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities that may include research and/or large industrial complexes.
- You will provide immediate oversight and direction of day-to-day operations.
- You will check new fire protection systems or equipment to verify correct installation and performance.
- You will evaluate the effectiveness of a hazardous material response.
- You will review the placement of apparatus equipment to affect rapid control, extinguishment, and rescue of personnel.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
