Critical Skills
Design and develop Java backend services using Spring Boot, Micronaut, and associated ecosystems.
Lead the development of RESTful APIs, service layers, and system integrations.
Manage build tooling with Maven or Gradle, and lead structured CI/CD processes.
Work with SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Neo4j) to model and query large-scale datasets.
Collaborate with cloud infrastructure teams to deploy services to AWS, GCP, or Azure, including use of S3, EC2, and managed database services.
Mentor junior engineers, lead code reviews, and uphold architectural and implementation best practices.
Write technical documentation, specifications, and contribute to planning efforts (e.g., Confluence, Jira).
Translate data between common formats such as JSON, Avro, Parquet, and proprietary systems.
Serve as a technical liaison with data engineering and DevOps teams on interoperability, scaling, and reliability.
What We Value
B.S. degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or a relevant field.
8+ years of software engineering experience with significant expertise in Java
Proficiency with Spring Boot and/or Micronaut for backend service development.
Strong understanding of RESTful architecture, data serialization, and API contracts.
Experience deploying cloud-native apps to AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL data stores and principles of efficient data access.
Experience leading development teams, driving architectural decisions, and guiding delivery.
Proficiency with Git, CI/CD systems, and agile software development life cycle (SDLC) practices.
Industry experience, preferably within the defense industry and/or intelligence community or related sectors, a plus.
Ability to convey complex technical concepts to stakeholders.
Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
Awareness of ethical considerations and responsible AI practices.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Familiarity with NiFi, Airflow, or other data pipeline orchestration tools (not required, nice to have).
Exposure to Kubernetes, IAM/security models, or Spark/Kafka environments (not required, nice to have).
Working knowledge of Python or ability to collaborate on multi-language microservice systems (not required, nice to have).
Prior experience working in secure, isolated, or “high-side” environments (e.g., C2S, SC2S) (not required, nice to have).

We are hiring for roles at our headquarters in Leawood, KS and remotely in the Arlington, VA region. Candidates in the Arlington, VA region may work remotely while not on customer site.
