This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed (NTE) three (3) years. Term appointments may be extended thereafter in one, two, or three year increments, indefinitely. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical and dental benefits, life insurance, and retirement. You will also be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.
You may qualify at the AD-05, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the AD-03 grade level in the Federal service:
B. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.;
OR
C. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

- Educate, connect, and empower international and U.S. leaders and security practitioners on Arctic and climate security challenges and opportunities.
- Make positive contributions to a collegial, team-centric working environment based on core values of transparency, mutual respect, and inclusion.
- Create and present executive education content that spurs discussion, reflection, and learning among the program participants.
- Facilitate objective-based discussions among fellows that encourage consolidation of learning and critical reasoning.
- Conducts research on matters of Arctic security, analyzes needs and developments in domestic and international policy, and makes original and innovative contributions on Arctic policy and security issues.
- Publishes results of research and analysis in leading journals, monographs, anthologies and books.
- Contribute to distinguished visitor engagements with subject matter expertise.
- Perform various administrative and institutional duties to support the executive education functions of the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies.
- Develop, manage, coordinate, conduct, and assess all aspects of engagements, including on-line and in-person courses, workshops, and partnerships.

- First Nations concepts, perspectives, and initiatives from Canada.
- Understanding and improving the economic drivers for coastal and isolated Arctic communities.
- Deepening our understanding of the human dimensions of wildlife biology, fisheries management, and climate sciences.
- Developing a better understanding of the dichotomy of rural Arctic communities in North America and the developed communities across our Nordic allies and partners.
- Describing the complexities and requirements for subsistence based lifeway(s), community adaptation and resiliency.
