AI Software Engineer Manager (TS/SCI)

Zachary Piper Solutions is looking for a AI Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of AI software engineers who are focused on building core AI/ML products and infrastructure for national security and defense customers. The team you will lead will be delivering backend systems, distributed platforms, and ML tooling used by our public sector partners. In addition to leading the AI software engineering teams, you will help grow the team. The expected ratio of duties would be 50% software engineering, technical product planning, coding, and 50% managing your team.

Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid Remote - 4 days onsite / 1 day remote)

Key Responsibilities :

• Drive engineering productivity, provide guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to a team of engineers working on Generative AI projects
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and execute strategic roadmaps
• Navigate and deliver outcomes while navigating through complex public sector compliance requirements and frameworks
• Design and implement scalable backend systems for Federal customers, leveraging Scale's modern and cloud-native AI infrastructure
• Develop distributed systems, data-intensive applications, and machine learning infrastructure to enable real impact for mission owners
• Build robust and reliable backend systems that can serve as standalone products, empowering customers to accelerate their own AI ambitions
• Participate actively in customer engagements, working closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver innovative solutions
• Assist in the recruiting and hiring of engineering professionals for building the engineering team

Background Qualifications:

• Must have at least 5+ years of experience in engineering
• 2+ years of engineering management or equivalent experience, and running a team
• Experience in software development
• Experience in scaling products at hyper-growth startups
• Experience with AI platforms, generative models, and large language models (LLM)
• Experience with cloud technologies
• Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain or maintain a TS/SCI clearance

Compensation:

• $170,000 - $270,000 (Based on years of relevant experience)
