Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior technical expert, developing intelligence analysis software, databases, and tools for modeling adversary systems across air, missile, cyber, and space domains. This expert applies engineering and computer science knowledge to create authoritative threat representations, integrating them into customer M&S environments. The expert also coordinates customer requirements and collaborates on future support.
DUTY 1: Performs multi-disciplinary professional engineering and computer science work involving the application of electronics, mechanical, aerospace, and other engineering and computer science disciplines to satisfy customer needs in the acquisition, development, and sustainment of weapon systems, subsystems, or support systems
DUTY 2: Provides intelligence support to enable military operations, force modernization, and policy-making. Serves as a liaison with DoD customers, other US Intelligence Centers, and foreign allies to develop and define intelligence analysis applications and M&S requirements, ensuring those requirements are met efficiently and effectively.
DUTY 3: Serves as an engineering and computer science consultant and technical expert, providing guidance and support to senior officials, intelligence analysts, engineers, software developers, and other national and international Intelligence Community partners.
DUTY 4: Represents NASIC at various DoD, national, and international-level working groups. Advocates for NASIC's position on intelligence analysis applications and their development, the characterization of threat weapons, and collaborating on or supporting work involving modeling and simulation.

This is a GG-13 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-13 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-13 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job.
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions.
This is an interdisciplinary position that may be filled as a Computer Engineer/Electronics Engineer/Computer Scientist, GG-0854/0855/1550-13.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 0854 COMPUTER ENGINEER and 0855 ELECTRONICS ENGINEER: Successfully completed a professional engineering degree: The curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum or include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
OR
Combination of education and experience that is college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1550 COMPUTER SCIENTIST: Requires a Bachelor's degree in computer science or a bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.

This understanding ensures alignment with established intelligence practices and frameworks.
3. Expanded knowledge of the mission, role, function, organizational structure, and operation of the DoD, Air Force, and Intelligence Community, including their communication and information infrastructures and organizations. This comprehensive knowledge base enables effective collaboration and support across various stakeholders.
4. Skill and ability to gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning task progress, and effectively communicate, including the presentation of technical problems and results in a logical and concise manner. This competency ensures effective problem-solving, decision-making, and communication within the role.
