• You will serve as the Surface Ship Engineering Development (SSED) Engineering Team Lead (ETL) for AN/SQQ-89A(V)15 Advanced Capability Build (ACB)/Technical Insertion (TI) system.
• You will support the Technical Project Manager and the Lead Branch Head through with the responsibility for the technical integrity of all products delivered.
• You will ensure that project deliverables support all pre-production variants of the US Navy's AN/SQQ-89 Surface Ship Sonar system milestones.
• You will ensure technical coordination across Surface Ship SONAR related projects from multiple program offices including commonality efforts between the cruiser and destroyer (CRUDES) classes, and frigate (FFG).
• You will lead a dynamic team in completing product development as well as implementing risk-based solutions to testing and development issues to provide Navy assessment of system production progress and integration.
• You will be responsible to provide the technical definition, planning, cyber evaluation and execution of testing and evaluation for the AN/SQQ-89 SONAR System Program.
• You will provide oversight of day-to-day operations to ensure established goals and deadlines are met within budget.
• You will be required to provide recommendations for to the program offices for Undersea Warfare requirements verification.
• You will provide technical advice to top level Navy management and technical personnel.
• You will ensure that progress of the team in overseeing and managing all tasks assigned to NUWC and will serve as a mentor to junior and senior staff members, ensuring that they are assigned viable opportunities to be an integral part of the team.
• You will provide assistance or oversight with activities for land-based and at-sea testing, between multiple Warfare Center Laboratories, Contractors, Naval Testing and Evaluation Organization and University Affiliated Research laboratories.
• You will perform program risk identification, management, tracking and mitigation.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), an Electrical Engineer (0850 series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), Oceanography (1360 Series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-3 (GS-9-11 equivalency) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: as a professional ENGINEER OR SCIENTIST providing engineering technical advice or implementing risk solutions to support product development or testing and evaluation of deliverables for surface ship sonar related projects and integrity of all products delivered.

For the Professional Engineering 08XX series:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

OR

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. OR

Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

For the Oceanography 1360 series:
A. Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.

For the Computer Science 1550 Series:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions .

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-12 & GS-13 grade levels.
