Job Summary:

The Junior Systems Engineer role is located in Sunnyvale California and is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the MILSATCOM Auxiliary Support Center (MASC), a tool that stores secret information critical to the 4 Space Operations Squadron AEHF mission. This role takes a holistic view throughout the system lifecycle, from concept development, requirements capture and design, through integration, verification, operations and disposal. The systems engineer is the primary interface among management, customers, suppliers, and specialty disciplines, ensuring all stakeholder needs and constraints are properly understood and addressed. Ensures that all systems function efficiently and effectively, aligning with business objectives. The Systems Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Systems administration and help desk expertise for sustainment/development environments on MASC, covering Windows, Solaris, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and other operating systems.
  • Configuration, data management, and software builds using Change Management (CM) tools.
  • Collaboration with functional teams to resolve findings/issues and participate in Agile activities.
  • Development and application of cybersecurity solutions, ensuring compliance with computer security policy and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Performance of software installs, updates, and patches, including troubleshooting and support.
  • Maintenance and development of documentation, including Version Description Documents (VDDs) and job aides.
  • Support for Digital Transformation activities, CDRL preparations, and ad hoc MASC projects.
  • Generation and documentation of metrics, tracking and documenting all efforts.
  • Travel to remote sites as needed to perform efforts.
  • Provision of support across the program information systems, including troubleshooting and remediation of issues.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field required, or combination of experience and education.
  • Experience: Security+ Certification as well as 2+ years of experience in systems engineering or a related field
  • Clearance Requirement: Secret with ability to obtain Top Secret
Required Skills:
  • Experience conducting media and security audits.
  • Ability to control, label, and ship media, and manage documentation workflows.
  • Familiarity with Restricted Data (RD) scanning and SharePoint for document baselining and management.
  • Proficiency with project management tools, such as Jira.
  • Experience monitoring computer system usage, network links, and virtual environments.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Change Management (CM) processes.
  • Ability to apply Operating System updates, antivirus solutions, and manage WSUS patching.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining Virtual Memory System (VMS) and Solaris environments.
  • Familiarity with system backup procedures for VMS and Solaris.

Preferred Skills:
  • Ability to develop and apply automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
  • Experience conducting Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) software assessments.
  • Working knowledge of SCAP/STIGS tools for system security compliance.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Office environment with occasional on-site work in data centers or with hardware systems.
  • May require after-hours or weekend work to address critical system issues or deployments.
  • Some travel may be necessary to support system installations or meet with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of IT equipment or hardware components (up to 25 lbs).

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position, typically working 40 hours per week. Extended hours may be required depending on operational needs.
