Job Summary:
Galapagos Federal Systems, LLC is seeking a highly qualified Senior Systems Engineer with extensive hands-on experience in cloud technologies, service-oriented platforms, and hybrid infrastructure solutions. This role is critical in leading the design, deployment, administration, and support of on-premises and cloud systems across dispersed environments.
The Senior Systems Engineer will ensure the integrity, security, and performance of enterprise IT infrastructures while driving long-term operational planning. Responsibilities include Active Directory management, Group Policy administration, PKI support, system automation, and implementation of OS enhancements to improve reliability and mission readiness. This is a high-impact opportunity to deliver resilient, secure, and modernized IT solutions for Department of Defense (DoD) programs.
Senior Systems Engineer Required Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise IT systems across on-premises and cloud environments
* Manage and administer Active Directory, Group Policies, PKI services, and enterprise automation scripts
* Provide Tier 3 engineering support for client-facing applications (SQL Server, Windows, SharePoint, Citrix) and infrastructure platforms (Windows Server, ESX, SAN, AWS, Azure)
* Troubleshoot complex system and network issues across hybrid infrastructures, including SAN, VMware, and Microsoft environments
* Implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability, performance, and security
* Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution to maintain operational resilience
* Develop and maintain enterprise backup and recovery strategies to protect data and services
* Ensure compliance with DoD directives, NIST SPs, FIPS, FISMA, and federal certification/accreditation processes
* Perform after-hours support as required to sustain mission-critical system operations
* Collaborate with in-house staff and vendors to resolve technical issues and integrate secure solutions
* Deliver technical documentation, system reports, and executive-level briefings for senior leadership
Senior Systems Engineer Required Skills and Experience:
* Active Secret Clearance
* 10+ years of IT experience, including 5+ years in a systems engineering role
* Expertise in advanced IT technologies:
* Cloud computing (Private, Public, Hybrid)
* Virtualization, software-defined networking, and data centers
* Service-Oriented Architectures and enterprise web services (AWS, Azure)
* Strong background in hardening, securing, and automating deployments for Windows and Linux OS
* Experience with Active Directory, Group Policies, PKI, and scripting for automation
* Knowledge of networking and core Internet protocols, including Layer 2 switching, SAN, VMware, and blade environments
* Experience supporting Microsoft O365 tenant environments
* Familiarity with DoD directives, NIST SPs, FIPS, FISMA, and federal C&A processes
* Strong troubleshooting skills across systems and networks
* Experience with backup/recovery strategies, high availability design, and disaster recovery planning
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience briefing senior executives
* Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and deliver customer-focused technical support
Senior Systems Engineer Required Education & Certifications:
* Minimum of a Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field
* Certifications with a cloud provider such as AWS or Azure (preferred)
