Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Propulsion & Controls Engineer, located in Nagoya Japan.
This expat position will include other compensatory fringes such as Cost-of-Living Allowances, Housing Allowances, and other allowances for employment in Nagoya, Japan.
The Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) team has opportunities for a motivated member to join our growing team. GPI is a new development product offering exciting opportunities and unique problem-solving challenges.
Team members work in multi discipline integrated product teams (IPTs) on a variety of electrical, mechanical, and propulsion subsystems and components on the interceptor. As part of the GPI team, you will contribute to the development of a new capability to the war fighter.
The in-country Propulsion & Controls Engineer will interface with the Chandler office and the GPI Cooperative Development partner to coordinate technical information exchange with their Engineering staff, support local supplier development effort, ensure adherence to export compliance policies, etc.

Primary Level Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- Interface with Chandler based Engineering team to support in-country activity
- Provide technical support on specification compliance with input from relevant technical subject matter experts
- Ensure product from local partner is adhering to contractual and technical data package requirements
- Support the local partner in accomplishing engineering effort to achieve major milestones, such as: gate reviews, technical interchange meetings, test events, and product delivery
- Protect NGC interests with respect to Export Compliance responsibilities
- Work with Japanese Cooperative Development Partner to evaluate suppliers and assist with monitoring supplier status/progress to achieve program needs
Principal Propulsion & Controls Engineer Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 1 year of related engineering experience
- Active in scope US DoD Secret security clearance, or higher at time of application
- Ability to live/work in Nagoya Japan
- Japanese Language fluency
- Interpersonal skills suitable to Japan Business Culture
- Experience with a solid propellant rocket motor (throttleable and foxed impulse) development and qualification effort
- Experience with an ordnance development and/or qualification effort
- Familiarity with NAVY and other industry safety standards related to rocket motors and ordnance
- Experience guiding and mentoring lower-level engineers
- Knowledge of GPI system requirements - understanding of background and rationale
- Understanding of Interceptor system/architecture, or similar
- Export compliance familiarity
- Ability to solve complex propulsion problems
