Pay Range

$140,700 - $178,392 Annually for the SES.2 level

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. Job Description

We have an opening for an Electrical Engineer in the High Explosives Applications Facility (HEAF). You will support facility maintenance, operations, and modernization duties related to enabling safe and efficient operations. This position is in the Facility Operations and Support organization within the Strategic Deterrence Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

In this role you will
  • Apply control theory to design, test, manage, and maintain control systems to support explosives operations within HEAF.
  • Implement requirements, designs, project scope, costs, schedule, and risk plans on projects focused on facility maintenance, operations, and programmatic equipment for use in a high explosives facility.
  • Implement project management methods and tools to ensure successful execution of projects.
  • Review, write, and develop technical specifications, drawings, and operating procedures.
  • Oversee and provide technical direction to facility capabilities including but not limited safety interlock systems and timing and firing systems.
  • Review and approve the electrical design of all new facility equipment and all electrical design changes for existing facility and plant equipment.
  • Assist in ensuring that all electronic/electrical ES&H-related facilities and plant equipment, including Systems with Safety Functions, are properly maintained.
  • Participate in formal and informal design reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or other technical areas, or the equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and ability to design, maintain, and troubleshoot Safety Significant Control Systems.
  • Experience working with software design/testing/integration of industrial control systems including PLCs, SCADA, DCS.
  • Ability to identify, develop and effectively communicate recommendations to facility and senior management regarding facility and safety equipment modifications.
  • Experience designing electrical systems for use in explosives facilities or with explosives testing systems.
  • Experience working with firing systems (CDUs, firesets, etc.).
  • Experience working with explosives and related electrical systems, specifically Explosives Handler Certification or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment which includes scientists, engineers, and technicians with advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Working knowledge of traditional electronic technician tasks/diagnostics (i.e., soldering, creating line schematics, oscilloscope use, etc.).
  • Significant experience working with electrical systems and components in a high explosives facility.
