Duties

- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, utilizes trades and/or labor knowledge and skill to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work.
- Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. Performs the entire spectrum of trades and/or labor task appropriate for the occupations and grade of the team for which they are assigned working leader.
- Attends and participates in various meetings in order to provide input and implement maintenance plans. Reviews and evaluates deficiency analysis reports.
- Maintains and/or controls tools and equipment. Ensure inventories and inspections on tools are completed with IAW established procedures on a regular basis and replaces worn or broken tools. Complies with safety requirements. Responsible for crew compliance with fire, safety, and housekeeping regulations and practices.

  • This position is open to AETC Command (all AETC installations/organizations/personnel).
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Shift work may be required. Emergency overtime may be required. Subject to call during non-duty hours.
  • Work requires access to classified information. Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Performs work that involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, and arm movement. Sometimes must work in awkward positions or cramped areas. Must frequently lift and carry items weighing up to about 40 pounds.
  • However, when lifting of heavier items over 18 kilograms (40 pounds), they will use jacks, hoists, and/or helpers.
  • The working conditions of this position are: May work inside or outside. Inside work involves frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperature, and loud noise. Outside work may involve exposure to bad weather, rain, snow, wet or icy
  • conditions. Both inside and outside frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair
  • because of defects. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains, and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting, and moving equipment and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns
  • and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices,
  • hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety. Incumbent of this position is subject to the possibility of a random drug test.
  • This position requires Lead/Supervisory duties.
Qualifications

This position is ONLY open to AETC Command (all AETC installations/organizations/personnel).

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s)
2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Skill in the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led.
4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led.
5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.
6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.

Physical Effort: Daily work for the employee will involve frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing and arm movement. With this, sometimes they must work in awkward positions and/or cramped areas. The employee will also be frequently involved with lifting and carrying items weighing up to about 18 kilograms (40 pounds). However, when lifting of heavier items over 18 kilograms (40 pounds), they will use jacks, hoists, and/or helpers.

Working Conditions: The employee will be conducting work either inside and/or outside. May work on parts and systems which are dirty and greasy, and which may be dangerous to operate or repair because of defects. In addition, the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. With this, to reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the mechanics follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves, and clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use and may be worn or used for long periods.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
