The United States Space Force (USSF) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is searching for a Deputy Director, ECZ/SZR (NH-0301-04, GS-14/15).

Description:
This Deputy Director position offers a unique opportunity to directly impact the development, delivery and employment of unique, quick reaction warfighting capabilities within the space domain. The unit supports all the Combatant Commands delivering cutting edge electronic warfare and cyber capabilities on short, operationally relevant timelines and is beginning to transition into operations and employment. Your day-to-day will involve a blend of strategic planning, team leadership, and hands-on problem-solving. Expect to spend a significant portion of your time directly supporting acquisition projects and strategic unit priorities, providing guidance and oversight to ensure projects stay on track and within budget. You'll be actively involved in personnel management, from hiring and training to supervisory responsibilities to conflict resolution. A key aspect of the role is collaborating with various stakeholders, from senior military officers to contractors, to represent the organization's interests, resolve complex issues, and drive alignment on critical initiatives. You'll also be responsible for establishing metrics, analyzing performance data, and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Ideal Candidate:
- A Bachelor's degree in Management, Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Extensive experience in program management, business operations, engineering or a related field within the Department of Defense (DoD).
- Operations and joint experience is a plus
- Proven experience in leading and managing teams, including performance management, development, and conflict resolution. Operations experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of DoD acquisition processes, regulations, and financial management directives.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations, develop strategic solutions, and implement them effectively.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of policies, practices, regulations, and laws concerning each functional areas processes and initiatives.
2. Thorough knowledge of qualitative and quantitative techniques to apply DoD, Joint, Space Force, and Air Force management principles, concepts, and methodologies and financial management directives, concepts, procedures, guidance and policy.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operations of DoD, Space Force, Air Force, and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence the support functions to provide organizational level staff guidance and/or conduct studies to determine the most efficient and effective approach.
4. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and processes.
5. Skill to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff in critical aspects of mission support and to coordinate various aspects of support such as manpower/personnel/training, facilities, communications/computers, and security.
6. Ability to supervise, mentor, motivate, appraise, and work with subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees.
7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and to use computers and a variety of software programs and databases. Gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours.
  • PCS / Incentive funding are authorized.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "unscheduled telework"
  • Position will close in 5 business days or 75 applications (whichever comes first).
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 60 days per year.
