In this Database Engineer role, you will design, manage, optimize, and ensure the smooth operation of GIS and Command and Control aligned government databases. This will include tasks like database design, security, performance tuning, and troubleshooting. You will work alongside a team of GIS and Command and Control engineers to implement and maintain the database systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design, document, secure and operate databases in support of Microsoft based software used for command and control of incidents and exercises.
- Designing and building modern relational and NoSQL databases, for example Microsoft SQL, Azure Dataverse, Azure Fabric, etc.
- Providing expert knowledge for the design, development, build, analysis, evaluation, installation, and administration of database management systems to include database modeling and design, relational database architecture, non-relational database architecture and procedures, metadata and repository creation and configuration management
- Developing data warehouse and fabric blueprints
- Use modern software development and automated testing best practices (GitLab CI/CD)
- Potentially work on data integration with external databases (and teams) using change data capture or other near-real-time synchronization frameworks such as with Qlik Data Integration and Confluent/Kafka.
- Reviewing and developing object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access
- Conduct performance monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting and other Site Reliability Engineering tasks.
- Secure databases to be compliant with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides and NIST RMF guidance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years experience in database administration, data architecture, or data management
- Require a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Data Science, prefer Master’s degree
- DoD Secret clearance
- DoD 8570 Level II Certification
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Fundamentals, Fabric Data Engineer Associate, Azure Database Administrator Associate
- Certified Data Professional, CompTIA DataSys+, CompTIA Data+, or similar.
- Ability to be onsite 2-3 days/week in Alexandria, VA
