Northrop Grumman's Corporate Sustainability organization is seeking a Manager 3, Environmental Remediation; this position reports to the Vice President and Chief Environment, Quality & Safety Officer.

The incumbent will serve as a member of the company's Environment, Quality & Safety Office leadership team, and will oversee environmental remediation across the Enterprise, driving consistency in program management and implementation. In addition, they will directly manage the Corporate Remediation team, including program managers and expert staff with direct responsibility for the success of a portfolio of remediation projects and the performance of remediation project managers under his/her direction.

This position preferred to be located near Falls Church, VA, but the qualified candidate must be located near an existing Northrop Grumman facility within the continental United States. This role required to be onsite and is not a remote position.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Develop a strategic vision for the company-wide management of environmental remediation obligations.
  • Drive consistent implementation of the company's remediation strategy across the Enterprise, which includes oversight of projects from corporate and sector legacies.
  • Lead a staff of remediation project managers, create opportunities for development, and onboard new staff to fill key capability needs.
  • Oversee execution of project strategies, forecasts, budgets, plans, and goals.
  • Lead an annual remediation strategic review for the company.
  • Assess portfolio for sustainable remediation opportunities; Develop and implement plan to achieve sustainable remediation practices across the portfolio.
  • Maintain awareness of status of all key projects, including technical performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Assess project opportunities and lead team in development of solutions.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to a team of expert staff; sustain engagement and development to drive role satisfaction and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain project management systems/framework.
  • Maintain key relationships with strategic service providers to enable efficient implementation of the company's remediation strategy.
  • Review/approve/monitor project-specific scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Direct and guide technical implementation across the portfolio to ensure project success.
  • Lead quarterly financial and performance reviews with project managers.
  • Provide QA/QC on agency deliverables from project managers.
  • Oversee contractor bidding, selection, and contract award process.
  • Oversee purchase requisition and invoice approval processes.
  • Compile project status and financial data for management reviews.
  • Perform routine program troubleshooting functions.


The successful candidate must have a solid understanding of federal and state laws and regulations, project management methodologies, chemical/mechanical processes, agency interaction, and cost and project controls. They must have the ability to drive change, lead cross-functional activities, develop a team of experts, and build relationships at all levels of the organization and with external vendors and suppliers.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience OR Master's degree with 8+ years of experience. Degree from an accredited institution with a focus in an engineering field (including environmental, chemical, civil, and mechanical).
  • A minimum of 10 years of working experience in the field of environmental remediation, with proven environmental remediation savvy and application.
  • A minimum of 10 years of project management experience in field operations and remedial construction.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in staff management.
  • Program vision oriented resulting in sustainable value and performance.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain high performing teams.
  • Proven ability to take ownership and be accountable with an "owners" mindset.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and work effectively with local, state and federal regulatory staff and leadership.
  • The ability to act with speed in meeting internal customer requirements, including timely notifications to sector leadership on topics related to annual spend and future environmental accruals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, an exceptional self-starter attitude, and the ability to produce in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong business/financial acumen, keen organizational skills, and excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to travel to various project locations in the United States and international.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) accreditation is a plus, but not required.
  • Program management experience is preferred.
  • Experience in developing partnerships with third-party experts is preferred.
  • Preferably located near Falls Church, Virginia or another large site within the Northrop Grumman footprint.


Primary Level Salary Range: $133,400.00 - $231,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
