We are looking for you to join our team as a Staff Cyber Systems Engineer based out of San Diego, CA. As a Staff Cyber Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What You'll Get to Do

As a Staff Cyber Systems Engineer on this team, you will have the following responsibilities:
  • Lead the cybersecurity development and deployment of secure information system architectures tailored for field environments, ensuring protection against cyber threats as per customer and DoD requirements.
  • Create cybersecurity related strategies to mitigate risks and determine how to apply appropriate security controls to reduce threat exposure.
  • Implement cybersecurity measures throughout the system development lifecycle, covering all phases from requirements gathering to design, implementation, testing, and sustainment.
  • Lead and execute vulnerability assessment events such as Security Testing and Evaluation (ST&E), Certification Testing and Evaluation (CT&E), and Cyber Vulnerability Assessment (CVA).
  • Conduct comprehensive vulnerability assessments and risk analysis to drive the development of security solutions.
  • Guide the organization in responding to cyber incidents, investigations, and developing recovery strategies for cyber events.
  • Provide technical leadership, consulting, and mentorship to junior engineers in support of customer contract execution.
  • Create and update cybersecurity policies, procedures, and best practices to guide the organization's security posture.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and regulatory frameworks (NIST, DoD RMF, Zero Trust).
  • Demonstrates skill and ability to analyze Statement of Work (SOW) cyber objectives and lead a team in execution of requirements.
  • Work with various teams, from developers to network administrators and management, to communicate security requirements, risks, and the overall security status of projects and systems.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 12 years of experience; or 10 years of relevant experience with a Masters degree; or 8 years with a PhD
  • Experience guiding technical teams
  • Basis of Estimate (BOE) and proposal experience
  • Possess a current DoD 8570 Certification for IAT Level II or higher prior to start date (Security+ CE)
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen
  • Clearance: A current/active DoD Secret clearance


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced understanding of cybersecurity standards and compliance requirements, including NIST SP 800-series, DoD STIGs, CIS benchmarks, and Zero Trust principles.
  • DoD IASAE Level II or higher Certification (CISSP, CISSP-ISSAP, CISSP-ISSEP).
  • Project Management Experience, specifically relating to recognizing and managing programmatic risks and opportunities.


Primary Level Salary Range: $188,200.00 - $282,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
