Senior Network Engineer

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to assist on a long-term network and cloud security effort supporting the Department of Health and Human Services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cisco & Palo Alto firewalls, monitoring and security tools like Splunk and Wireshark, along with hands-on work in Azure cloud environments. This role is Fully Onsite in Rockville, MD and requires eligibility to obtain a U.S. Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities of the Senior Network Engineer:

• Upgrade Cisco network software and troubleshoot infrastructure issues across firewalls, VPNs, and switches
• Maintain and implement network security SOPs, update technical documentation, and manage change control
• Remediate vulnerabilities and support secure access via Cisco ISE, IPsec VPN, and Azure NSGs
• Analyze network traffic and performance using Wireshark, Riverbed, Splunk, and SolarWinds scripts
• Manage and renew TLS certificates, and support connectivity across LAN/WAN/Wireless environments
• Participate in scheduled onsite maintenance windows, including after-hours and weekends

Qualifications for the Senior Network Engineer:

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
• Proficient in NetScaler Citrix, Cisco ASA 5500 / Firepower, and Cisco switch software upgrades (Required)
• Advanced troubleshooting skills across VPNs, network access controls, and complex network issues
• Experience with Cisco ISE, IPsec VPN, and Palo Alto Firewalls with Panorama
• Strong understanding of LAN/WAN/Wireless, Azure NSGs, and TLS certificate management
• Skilled in traffic analysis using Wireshark, Riverbed, and Splunk
• Familiar with SolarWinds scripting, vulnerability remediation, and change management processes
• Hands-on network and security focused work in an Azure cloud environment.
• Understanding of API-driven configurations
• Willing to work after hours/weekends onsite during specified maintenance windows (Required)
• Eligible to obtain a U.S. Public Trust clearance

Compensation and Benefits:

• $120,000 - 140,000 *Dependent on experience*
