JOB SUMMARY :

The Aircraft Worker is responsible for repairing aircraft, assisting in troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structure, cleaning, removing, and reinstalling defective parts, accessories, and components. May need to perform towing duties for various types of aircraft ranging from large bombers and cargo transport to small fighters and single engine aircraft (towing duties include serving as tow supervisor, brake rider, wing/tail walker, and chock walker).

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS :

  • At least a minimum of three (3) years' related work experience in the maintenance, repair, modification and corrosion control of AGE/GSE, or of similar or related DoD equipment maintenance, repair, and modification experience.
  • Good working knowledge of the USAF supply systems, programs, policies and manuals, in addition to proper methods of inventory control and the associated terminology and other accepted or required standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, be able to acquire and maintain any and all necessary security clearances and be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Removes, inspects, cleans and installs components and parts.
  • Prepare serviceable aircraft parts for return into the SBSS supply system.
  • Hoist aircraft and install shoring under airframes and/or components on multiple MDS's for short-and long-term storage requirements.
  • Service aircraft, tires, struts, and accumulators, use powered and non-powered AGE, remove and install aircraft panels, wheel and tire assemblies, and aircraft protective devices.
  • Survey and layout aircraft parking locations, operate uni-loader, install tiedown devices, wash aircraft and associated parts, and prepare them for paint, and use the small parts blasting booth to clean aircraft parts.
  • Identifies and removes known or suspected environmental hazards including but not limited to friable asbestos and sealed and unsealed radiation sources during demilitarization operations.
  • During disassembly and reassembly operations, makes condition inspections, including inspections for loose wiring on components, frayed insulation, chaffing, and damaged tubing.
  • Installs, aligns, and adjusts fewer complex aircraft systems, subsystems, assemblies, and components such as ejection seats, nuclear shielding, or similar self-contained systems that have few adjustments and little interaction with other systems.
  • Reports unusual wear or damage if observed.
  • Uses and maintains various types of power and hand tools to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Sets up scaffolds, ladders, stands, and other equipment to prepare the work site as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Often - Climbing, Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Standing, Sitting, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Seeing, Hearing, Talking
  • Lifting/Moving Requirements - up to 75 pounds
    • Required to lift unusually heavy or eccentric loads up to 185,000 pounds in standard and non-standard configurations that may require a tandem lift or use of custom rigging equipment.


ENVIRONMENTAL/WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Generally works in and outside of environmentally controlled work areas.
  • Potential exposure to harsh or hazardous compounds and chemicals.
  • Extreme weather conditions maybe encountered.
  • Exposure to loud noises.
