Credence has an upcoming need for a Software Systems Engineer- to support large-scale digital modernization efforts for mission-critical Department of Defense (DoD) systems with massive national impact. This role formulates and defines specifications for complex software systems, designs cross-functional architectures, and ensures solutions meet current and future requirements while maintaining compliance with DoD standards. The engineer will lead the design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation of operating software applications, while also guiding hardware and communications integration. The position requires expertise with systems engineering, software development, and Business Intelligence platforms (e.g., MicroStrategy), as well as experience implementing modern security solutions such as cryptography and blockchain technologies. The Software Systems Engineer Lead will also provide technical direction, mentor team members, and ensure software quality and system compatibility across environments. This position is based in Credence's corporate offices located in Tyson's Corner in McLean, VA or Dayton OH. This role is slated to kick off in Sept 2025.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the duties listed below
  • Formulate and define specifications for complex software applications and maintain/modify existing systems using manufacturer utilities and engineering releases.
  • Design software, hardware, and communication architectures to meet enterprise and cross-functional requirements, ensuring compliance with DoD open systems standards.
  • Lead efforts in program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation for mission-critical systems.
  • Provide in-depth software systems programming and analysis, including advanced file maintenance, telecommunications networks, and scientific/mathematical software packages.
  • Apply expertise with MicroStrategy or other BI platforms for analytics, data modeling, and dashboard design to support mission operations.
  • Implement modern security solutions such as blockchain and cryptography to harden system designs.
  • Direct, mentor, and review the work of task personnel, ensuring quality assurance, adherence to standards, and project deadlines are met.
  • Identify, assess, and present options for system improvements, including hardware/software upgrades and emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate new and existing software products; ensure systems remain efficient, sustainable, and aligned with mission requirements.
  • Work closely with project management to define project schedules and technical direction.
Education, Requirements and Qualifications
  • Must possess an active IT-II security clearance or a current NACLC.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a relevant field, specifically EDI/XML electronic data exchange experience (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, or InformationSystems/Technology), and a specific logistics function (e.g., finance, supply, contract administration, transportation, operations research).
  • Demonstrates proficiency with data and transaction standards in both modern (DLMS) and legacy formats that underpin critical logistics and financial processes.
  • Provides analysis and guidance on core military standard systems, including:
    • Military Standard Requisitioning and Issue Procedures (MILSTRIP)
    • Military Standard Transaction Reporting and Accountability Procedures (MILSTRAP)
    • Military Standard Billing System (MILSBILLS)
  • Must have demonstrated experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Strong understanding of data modeling and database design
  • Proficiency in EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) and XML (Extensible Markup Language)
  • Familiarity with data integration tools and techniques
  • Offers expertise on processes and systems, such as Supply Discrepancy Reporting (SDR/WebSDR), the DoD Activity Address Directory (DoDAAD)/Military Assistance Program Address Directory (MAPAD), and the Logistics Metrics Analysis Reporting System (LMARS).
  • Guides project teams on matters related to DLA Distribution Depot operations and their supporting automated information systems (e.g., Distribution Standard System) and advises on DLA Materiel Management operations (e.g., Enterprise Business System).
  • Functions in a project leadership role to develop creative technical solutions for complex problems, demonstrating exceptional communication and guidance.
