Overview
Caribou Thunder is seeking a Network Engineer to support the BOA/OPIR/ESL team at Schriever Space Force Base. This role provides hands-on engineering support across lab environments, ensuring reliable end-to-end communication and high system availability. The selected candidate will design, enhance, and troubleshoot complex network systems while collaborating in a fast-paced, geographically diverse team.
What You’ll Do
Provide network engineering support for software integration lab environments.
Implement network changes to optimize system performance and architecture.
Troubleshoot complex networking issues across multi-vendor environments.
Resolve identified bugs and ensure system uptime and resilience.
Configure, manage, and secure network devices and firewalls.
Deliver technical documentation and support using Microsoft Office tools (Visio, PowerPoint).
Collaborate across teams to ensure 100% network availability.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of related engineering experience; OR
Master’s degree in STEM with 0 years of experience; OR
6 years of experience in lieu of degree.
Active DoD 8140 IAT Level II (or higher) certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, Network+, CISSP).
Proficiency in TCP/IP, IPv4 addressing, IP subnetting, VLANs, Spanning Tree, Nexus VPC, and routing protocols.
Knowledge of the OSI model and ability to apply it for troubleshooting.
Firewall management experience (Cisco FirePower, ASA, Fortigate).
Understanding of DNS and device configuration.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Visio, PowerPoint).
Knowledge of network security (IP access-lists).
Active DoD Secret clearance required to start.
Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
Active DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
Professional networking certifications (CCNA or higher).
Experience with Cisco Nexus switches, ACI fabrics, Catalyst switches, and data center architectures.
Familiarity with network automation scripting (Ansible, Python, Bash, Shell).
Knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, NSX).
Understanding of MPLS, QoS, and Multicast.
Experience with network management tools (SolarWinds, SuzieQ, Splunk, Cisco ISE).
Familiarity with Windows, Linux, VMware environments.
Experience with HAIPE/TACLANE encryptors and military COMSEC/CRYPTO procedures.
Familiarity with network emulators (EVE-NG, GNS3, Cisco CML, VIRL).
Working knowledge of DISA STIGs and DoD cybersecurity best practices.
Experience with collaboration and development tools (Jira, Bitbucket, GitLab, GitHub).
