Pay: Exempt; $105,000 -$125,000 (Based on level of skill & experience)

Ryan Consulting Group, Inc. is seeking a BigFix Software and Patch Management Engineer to design, implement, and maintain the IBM BigFix platform. The role will primarily focus on software package deployment, patch management, and system compliance through the creation and execution of scripts. The role ensures the efficient and secure management of endpoint devices across the organization. The ideal candidate will possess 5-10 years of Windows/Linux, custom scripting, and remediating Tenable ACAS scan result experience. Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, networking, and security best practices is essential for success in this role.
  • Software Package Deployment: Create, test, and deploy software packages and applications using BigFix fixlets, tasks, and baselines across various operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS).
  • Patch Management: Develop and implement patch management solutions, including the deployment of security patches and updates to ensure system security and compliance.
  • Scripting and Automation: Develop and maintain custom scripts (e.g. Powershell, Shell Scripting, BigFix Relevance and Action Script) to automate software deployments, system configurations, and other administrative tasks.
  • BigFix Platform Administration: Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot the BigFix server, relays, and clients. Perform BigFix upgrades and ensure optimal performance of the BigFix infrastructure.
  • Fixlet and Task Creation: Design, create, and manage BigFix fixlets, tasks, and analyses to address vulnerabilities, enforce policies, and deploy software.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Generate reports and dashboards on system health, software inventory, patch compliance, and vulnerability status. Ensure systems adhere to security and compliance policies using BigFix Compliance.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to BigFix client-server communication, software deployment failures, and other BigFix-related problems.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with IT security, operations, and other teams to align endpoint management strategies, ensure best practices, and address urgent security advisories.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for BigFix processes, configurations, and best practices.


Daily Responsibilities:

  • Deploying security patches and software updates, monitoring endpoint compliance, and troubleshooting client or server issues.
  • Create and maintain custom scripts, generate compliance reports, and coordinate with security and infrastructure teams to ensure systems remain secure and up to date.
  • Proactively identifying vulnerabilities and implementing remediation strategies.
  • Staying organized and adapting quickly to priority changes are crucial, as you may need to respond to urgent incidents or critical security advisories.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree - Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
  • Active Secret Security Clearance
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience writing custom scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Shell scripting, BigFix Relevance and Action Script)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with BigFix
  • Experience remediating Tenable ACAS Scan results
  • Experience understanding and leveraging Exit codes


Technical knowledge required

  • Windows OS
  • Linux OS
  • Strong background in systems administration, endpoint management, and patch deployment
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear communication are key soft skills for troubleshooting and collaborating across IT teams


Hardware and/or software skills required

  • Broadcomm Virtual Servers
  • Dell desktops


Certification Requirements

Candidates must have at least ONE IAT Level II certification (any of the following certifications)
