In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.
Qualifying Experience:
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
You resume must reflect your ability to do the work of an Electronic Power Controller without more than normal supervision: operating, maintaining, repairing, and diagnosing failures in diesel engines and electric generators and large DC power systems such as battery strings, and monitoring distribution of generated current
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including Military service or volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
For short periods of time pulling and tugging tools is required. Regular standing, stooping, and reaching are required in servicing this equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a well heated, lighted, and ventilated area except for that time when diesel engines are in operation and discharge fumes are not fully removed by the exhaust system. The environment is hazardous due to high noise levels, live electrical equipment, and moving parts on engines and the generators. Subject to call on a 24 - hour basis and rotation to any of the three shifts on a forty-hour, five- day-week. When work is being performed in an asbestos containment area, special precautions must be taken. These include but are not limited to following the guidelines for working above ceilings and for wearing protective equipment such as tyvek suits and
respirators. Protective equipment is required while working with other hazards as well.

Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:
- Performs a variety of journeyman electrician duties on diesel powered electric generators ranging from 6 KW to 2 MW and 110/240 volt portable light carts to 13,800 volt 3 phase network-alternating systems; when directed, assumes fully the duties and responsibilities of the Electric Power Controller Supervisor in his absence.
- Starts and places generators in service as required by the demand for power, adjusting voltage regulators, equalizing the phase voltage, synchronizing the generators, adjusting governors, and closing the circuit breakers. Performs high voltage switching as needed on 4160 Volt and 13,800 Volt systems.
- Performs routine and special generator plant maintenance such as cleaning/adjusting generating units and all auxiliary equipment, adjusting/calibrating regulators, governors, and circuit breakers; performs benchwork of an electrical or mechanical nature.
- Locates and must be alert to take proper action in case of trouble with the system, such as switching the load to generators not on line, changing circuits in the event of overloads or short circuits resetting overload relays and changing to hand regulation in the event of voltage regulator or governor trouble.
- Examines and tests various equipment such as fuel storage tanks and supply lines, gauges and meters, turbochargers, fuel injectors and manifolds, exhaust silencers and engine exhaust systems, diesel engines, reduction gears and automatic engine controls; performs major and minor repairs to generating plant equipment.
