Job Description/Essential Functions:

Bevilacqua Research Corporation (BRC) is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned, Small Business based in Huntsville, Alabama incorporated in 1992. BRC provides "best-value" technical and management solutions to a diverse government and commercial customer base in the following key business areas: test & evaluation, systems analysis & integration, security & intelligence, and R&D.

This position will provide full-time, on-site personal services standing Ocean Simulation Facility (OSF) watches in support of diving operations as well as perform fabrication duties within the Machine Shop / Fab Shop of the Navy Experimental Diving Unit (NEDU), Panama City, FL.

The support contractor will work in the NEDU Machine Shop / Fab shop and be responsible for the design, repair, operation, and maintenance on equipment used for underwater diving systems.

Responsibilities:

A fabricator at NEDU must be skilled in all facets of metal working, plastic working, and wood working operations. Skills in CNC routing, 3D printing, and waterjet programming and operation are required. The facility requires making quality products with high precision while maintaining Navy diving and life support standards.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
  • Experience with Multi-axis CNC Programming through 'Shop Sabre Aspir'e software.
  • Experience with Multi-axis CNC Programming through the 'Flow Jet Xpert', 'Flow Path', and 'Flow Cut' software.
  • Knowledge of operation and skills to troubleshoot a MACH 200 Flow Water Jet.
  • Experience with Fuse One 3D printers and 'PreForm 3-D' printing software.
  • Responsible for the safety and cleanliness in the fabrication shop.
  • Experienced with welding, cutting, grinding, sheet metal, drill press, hand tools, and wood working.
  • Drive continuous improvement through robust process corrective actions for issues identified on nonconforming findings.
  • Ensure time standards are present and accurate for all in-process jobs. Troubleshoot any jobs not meeting estimates.
  • Provide leadership in the direction of design and process development, production, operations, engineering, test, and Quality Assurance functions.
  • Be qualified at all watch stations in the Ocean Simulation Facility (OSF).


Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for completing all assigned work with a high degree of quality and professionalism.
  • Work effectively, efficiently, individually, and within a team environment to help execute safe dive operations.
  • Responsible for directing other operators on priorities and direction during dive operations.
  • Responsible for solving and troubleshooting complex dive operations issues.
  • Responsible for programming waterjet and the CNC router machines and/or reviewing other programs for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Responsible for staging work and equipment for operations.
  • Monitoring and execution of scheduling and prioritization.
  • Attending pre-dive briefs and meetings to ensure clear and concise protocols are sent through routing
  • Responsible for ensuring finished products are completed in accordance with documented Change Management, AS9102 First Article procedures, and engineering change proposals.
  • Responsible for ensuring tooling, materials, and consumables are stocked as needed, organized, and optimized.
  • Generate and review manufacturing quotes.
  • Inventory and material management
  • Draft, reverse engineer and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) of physical products, models, and drawings.
  • Develop unique fixtures and setups
  • Ability to adapt to dynamic changes in schedule and re-prioritization based on needs and workload demands.
  • Work in a team environment and take ownership of the position to provide the best quality product
  • Oversee all operational aspects of a (one or more) manufacturing and/or production area(s)
  • Responsible for the safety of the employees by delivering quality products on time, as well as identifying continuous improvement opportunities
  • Provide direction of design and process development, production, operations, engineering, test and Quality Assurance functions
  • Manage and present status on cost, schedule and performance for all projects within the work center
  • Assess issues and develop mitigation plans to meet productivity, quality, cost, and delivery goals
Minimum Requirements:
Educational Qualifications:
  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred: Trade School or college experience

Required Experience:
  • Qualified on all OSF watch stations
  • Experience in modern CAM software, specifically:
  • Aspire: 2 years
  • Flow Waterjet: 2 years
  • Read and interpret blueprints and related technical documents.
  • Ability to properly use micrometers, calipers, and other metrology tools as well as understanding of CMM principles and capabilities
  • 4+ years' experience welding and fabricating parts in a short run/job shop environment.
  • 4+ years of proven experience in sheet metal and machining detailed parts and assemblies
  • 4+ years of experience managing or leading a team and assigning their daily tasks
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Must have full knowledge of working on Experimental parts and assemblies
  • Must be competent in giving accurate, time to complete estimates on both machined and sheet metal parts from just engineering drawings
  • Must have experience in prioritizing and leading all projects.
  • Must have experience in developing manufacturing tooling, and shop aids to assist both production and proto-type tasks
  • Must be able to read drawings, instruction manuals and machine readouts and dials. Able to hear machine noises to diagnose or monitor processes and communicate with others in the company.
  • Must be able to utilize mathematics and the ability to read a tape measure, micrometer, dial caliper and any other measuring device required in the machinists' trade.
  • Must be able to determine the importance of data and how it may (or may not) apply to NEDU. Must be able to determine the most efficient, cost-effective way to produce custom machine parts.

Physical Requirements:
  • Body positions: Standing, sitting, kneeling, lifting 50+ lbs.
  • Body movements: Maneuverability throughout facility, working on a ladder.

Working Conditions:
  • Work will be primarily performed in a machine shop environment. Some areas may not be climate controlled.
  • Eight-hour days, typically from 0730 to 1630
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend effort and overtime, as needed

  • Must be self-driven, leader with full command of various machining processes including milling, turning.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of materials including carbon steel, aluminum, tool steel, stainless steel and plastics.
  • Knowledgeable about Navy structure, Chain of Command, and processes
