Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a Software Engineer – Principal I with expertise in data engineering and cloud-based development to design, implement, and optimize secure data pipelines in support of mission customers. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in data ingestion, processing, and orchestration, leveraging AWS, Databricks, Elasticsearch, and modern DevOps tools. This senior-level role includes oversight of pipeline development, automation, performance monitoring, and process improvement to ensure technical correctness, timeliness, and high-quality delivery.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, develop, and implement end-to-end data ingestion and processing pipelines using
Cloud and Platform technologies.
• Transform data from bronze (RAW) to silver (clean) to gold (projected) tiers following the
Medallion model.
• Schedule, orchestrate, and monitor automated/semi-automated pipelines.
• Map and integrate data assets in support of multiple mission customers.
• Develop and maintain a team process improvement plan for data engineering.
• Write code in programming and scripting languages to automate ingestion, pipeline
orchestration, and data management.
• Implement pipeline transparency using tools such as AWS CloudWatch for monitoring and
performance metrics.
• Ensure team Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are captured, communicated, and
followed.
• Guarantee technical correctness, timeliness, and delivery quality for the team.
• Provide excellent oral and written communication with management and customer
stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Active Secret clearance; must be able to obtain TS/SCI clearance and DHS Suitability.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• 4+ years performing data engineering in a cloud environment.
• Experience with relational, NoSQL, and/or file-based storage (Databricks, Elastic, Postgres,
etc.).
• Experience with DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Splunk.
• Working knowledge of Databricks, Cloud Relational Database Services, and Elasticsearch.
Desired Skills
• Experience with Databricks workflows, Unity Catalog, Autoloader, Delta Live Tables, Apache
Spark.
• Basic working knowledge of Apache NiFi.
• Experience with collaboration tools (MS Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Confluence).
• AWS Professional certification or equivalent.
Education Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline is
required.
• Ten (10) years of additional experience (for a total of 18+) may be substituted in lieu of a
degree.
Certifications (Preferred)
• DoD 8570.1-M IAT Level I compliance certification (e.g., CISSP) highly desired.
• AWS Professional-level certifications.
